Even when there were Republican Presidents, they were stuck with Democrat Congresses and legislative majorities in most state legislatures, so those Republican Presidents had to kind of do "Republican Lite"

The Euros seem puzzled. A good dose of US media would go a long way toward explaining things.

MtG thinks that a repug magority in the house is the blame of the president, obviously. He also thinks the last time a repug majority and reug prez coexisted bad things happened. He is, however, forgetting the policy precedes affect, sometimes by years if not a decade.

MtG: Don't forget that the Republicans had the presidency, House, and Senate briefly under Eisenhower.
I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891

I wonder how realistically the media in their own countries portrayed the race. Did they spend their time blowing smoke up their readers'/viewers' asses or did they give the straight dope?

IOW, there's no standing situation in politics that can't be excused away.

I think that opinion in the United States is decidedly different from the rest of the world because we have a free press -- by free, I mean a virgorously presented right wing point of view on the air and available to all.- Ned

You mean the much-maligned "liberal media" who's constantly pushing pinko left-wing ideals onto the public?

Or are we talking FOX here?

DanS made my point for me on Eisenhower.

Though you raise an interesting point.

Will Dubya be the Roosevelt for the right?

Will people fifty years from now, vote for the party of Dubya? Will they be called Dubya Republicans?

                          Any of it.

CNN is less likely to have you twitching on the ground in hysterics though.

From what I could gather, roughly speaking:
                            It was a close race
Republicans claim Bush is a good leader and Kerry is a flip-flopper who'll open America up to further terrorist attacks
Kerry says he's not Bush and he's got some actual plans

So, how far from the truth am I?

Y'all can see my account on FFZ if you want the answer to your question DanS.

They were very good, until they were looking at a Dubya victory.

I thought those rotated - that the House and Senate majorities were off from each other by two years. Either way, that was just a bump on the Dem road of Congressional dominance, just like a possum carcass.
