    This is ridiculous.

We have more important things to be concerned about than whether or not we should rank Kerry's comment on a scale from being fine to vicious with the "tactless" or "tacky" somewhere in the middle of this nitpicking scale.

Course he did! He presumed to say what she would think and do thus stereotyping her. Had he quoted her it might have been different.

Listen, the real problem that I keep going back to is simply this. This could be the biggest brewhaha over nothing if someone would simply go to Mary Cheney and ask her if she was upset that she was dragged into this fray against her wishes. Mary Cheney is IMO the only one that has a right to be upset and if she does then Kerry was a huge tool.

The rest is simply Kerry being tactless. A flaw but not a show stopper.

It's interesting how many conservative pundits are huffing and puffing over Kerry mentioning Mary's homosexuality, but few if anyone on the liberal or gay sides of the spectrum have so much as sighed about anything more than the way Kerry said what he said or that he said anything at all.

I agree: Move the f*ck on, people.

Can we move onto the real issues now?

Actually, I think the more some Republicans carry on about this trivial incident, the more apparent that some of them will expose their homophobia more publicly.

This is in the hopes that this will turn off some moderate voters away from Bush, to Kerry.

Just as soon as Mary Cheney is consulted.

She's been consulted, and she doesn't want to give a statement.

It might have something to do with the fact she lives with her partner and has a wedding band.

However, the fact remains, his daughter is a lesbian, now it's no big deal unless you make it a big deal by raising those questions, and keep it a taboo.
It is a taboo. And for Kerry to apply that taboo, which makes people view someone differently, to his opponent's daughter, for no apparent reason, is uncalled for. And it sets bad precedent. Let's check Kerry's kid's SAT scores and use that to talk about our failing education system, why not?

Oh wasn't it Cheney that implicated, that if Kerry is chosen and Bush is not, the terrorists will strike the US? which is worse. Or to question his patriotism, while he was the one in Vietnam? Which is worse.
Well first off that has nothing to do with family members. Second, you need to provide specific quotes. Third, there are reasons to question his patriotism, and to believe that we'd be less safe under his presidency.

Even though Kerry could have just shut up about it, the issue is not Kerry. The issue is with Cheney. Why is he trying to get outraged with his fellow party men, when he could turn this EASILY into landslide victory, by giving a strong speech, taking her daughter to the stage, hugging her and telling he loves her and supports her decisions and that he is comfortable with it? This would make Kerry a jerk and Cheney a ****ing huge hero, American style!
                    What?

You're definitely a commie if you don't want foreign, third world countries to develop capitalist economies.

Hey, I didn't say it was a good idea for Kerry to bring it up. It definitely is kind of .. disrespectful in a way, but not because she is a lesbian, but because mentioning someones sexuality all together, as it is kind of irrelevant.

"Well first off that has nothing to do with family members. Second, you need to provide specific quotes. Third, there are reasons to question his patriotism, and to believe that we'd be less safe under his presidency."

Leave the family out of it you say? well ok, I can accept that. Do you really say, that Cheney didn't say that indirectly, however extremely directly? What country do you live in, even in here it's a known fact. Half a cross the globe! Open tv, read papers why don't you. You can question Kerry's patriotism all you want, I have no reason to believe he isn't a patriot. But you say this accusation is not bar with mentioning, that Cheney's daughter is a lesbian and for that he respects their family becase they are showing how different families can work? Of course that was an indirect attack in a way, but to say he has reached a new level of low in attacks..... I guess it just depends how you prioritize things. I say questioning his patriotism is the most gross accusation a person can make against him.

                        "What?

No wonder Republicans can't turn this into a victory issue. There were 2 ways to do it, the first one I explained. The second one is to just not mention it and it dies away. Instead they chose to get outraged.

I don't even understand the communist remark. Are you running out of ideas and arguments? I just don't get your whole argument. In fact I see where you are coming from with your issues in this thread. So, instead of debating about it for 3000 pages and not making any difference, you can start a new thread and call someone else a whore in it, and be against foreigners in there. I just feel like not debating with a racist.

and in case you are not a racist, then your last argument just makes absolutely no sense at all, and either way, there's no point of arguing with you about this, as you just try to expand the issue to other things from what the thread was about.

                                Let's look at a much more revealing statement made by a politician . . . . . . .

six months after 9/11 Bush said at a press conference that he was not concerned about Osama Bin Ladin. So much for his purported war against terrorism.
