Oldwarrior, while you may have respect for the team, that doesn't mean you don't dislike them . Most times the teams are extensions of the fans and take on their characterists (hence cocky Yankee ballplayers ). Schilling was saying a lot of stuff that a fan might before the season, for instance.

The combination of fans and team is the reason that I think you can't seperate it and say you hate A but not B. I think they are too intermeshed to make that distinction.

Besides, you are a Yankees AND a Mets fan? What do you know? Though, being a Mets fan, our rivals aren't the Cubs (who knows it might have been in the dark ages ). It's the Braves and we hate the ****ers.

I too wondered what would have happened up in Beantown if the ball thrown back over the Monster had hit Damon in the head (come to think of it, the fans might have cheared at that point).

He's been pretty useless even over the last few games.

But then so has Jeter (notwithstanding the single last night to make it 4-2).

My take on the rivalry:

I don't know if I can take this anymore. Losing to the Red Sox would be the ultimate humiliation. This thing (the Yanks win/Sox lose - always) has been built up so much that the Yankees HAVE to win. If they don't, it's a disgrace. If they win, it's what "should" happen, so it's not joy but rather a sigh of relief. Last year's ALCS was hell for me. Hell. When the Yanks won, I was momentarily elated because of the drama of the comeback, but mostly I was just relieved. And too worn out to care about the World Series. This year is now even worse, because while I went into the series expecting a long, nutty series, I was then lulled into a false sense of security by the 3-0 lead. Watching the Sox win 3 straight has been brutal - it's kinda like the roles are reversed.

Now, I'd love to believe that this is all setup for the Sox to lose game 7, perhaps in especially dramatic fashion, but there is of course doubt in my mind, because I don't believe in curses or any other such silliness.

I agree that this is just too nerve racking-and I also am sick of how long the games are-the only one that ended before 11:30 was the one that begun at 5pm....

I'm pissed about starting the games at 8 - I'm exhausted. Absolutely exhausted.

I took a vacation day on Monday. Why? Because I finally went to bed at 1:30 am (end of the 11th, game 4). I woke up and was just too damned tired to go to work. Then I though "ok, tonights game starts at 5, so even it's a long game, I'll be fine." Yeah, that one went to 11:30, the longest game in playoff history, I believe.

But I wouldn't be complaining if the Yanks had won that game. It only sucks because they lost. I recall being tired last week, but there was a bounce in my step because we were up 2-0 at the time.

True. But consider that he walked the leadoff man (Matsui, who he had to be very careful with). Then he gets two outs, and then the walk to Sierra was extremely close (the 3-2 pitch was *just* high and away). He's gotta be careful with Sierra, especially with Clark (worst hitter in the lineup) on deck. Then he throws a perfect 3-2 pitch to Clark.

Yes, he walked some guys and yes he went to 3 balls on the last hitter. But like I said, he really only threw 1 hittable pitch, which is pretty damn good.

This is gonna be nuts. The old truism of "anything can happen" looks pretty appropriate for tonight. It could easily be a blowout for either side. Or it could be more extra inning madness. Who the hell knows?

A true Mets fan never roots for the Yanks . And we mock our team for trying to be the Yanks by buying up the biggest names (Phillips, you dolt!). The best Mets teams were built from the farm system with a little bit of some outside star power to complement it (1969, 73, 86, 88, 2000).

I'll be in the odd position of potentially rooting for the Sox in the WS if they win tonight. My finacee and a bunch of my friends are Sox fans, and since I have no particular feelings about the National League, I kinda have to root for the Sox if they make it. Besides, I am a bit curious to see what happens if they actually win one. And even if they do, it's still 26 to 5 all time and 4 to 1 in recent memory.

If the Sox go the WS, I'll root for them if they are against the Astros (hate Clemens). If the Sox and Cards go to the WS, then I won't be rooting for either, but will happy if either wins.

If the Yanks go the WS, then, of course, I'll root against them, but if the Astros go as well, then I'll root for the ground to collapse on both teams and send them straight to Hell .
