  • I never spend that much on clothes, really. Haven't brought anything new for ~6 months. But then I do have a wardrobe that causes some people to worry about my sexuality - after Coco's comment especially

But then most of the stuff I buy in sales (we have sales almost all the time here). Like my last couple of pairs of shoes cost $18 a piece. One's some black boots that are great, and the others look like baseball boots, brown and textured. Reduced from $85 a piece

My jeans cost $35-$80 depending on sales. But then you can't get jeans for less than £20 really ($35) here. Most I've ever spent was ~$100 on a pair of Versace Couture ones in Harvey Nicks sale, which are gorgeous, textured and look fantastic. Shame they don't fit anymore

T shirts I go mad on, I spent $55 in a sale on one, that I love, but usually I'll spend ~$30 for one. Sadly, most of the interesting designers, even the high street ones, charge £30-60 for a t shirt ($50-100). Shirts usually cost $50 or so, less if I can find ones in River Island or H&M sales.

The most I've ever spent at once was ~$450 on a handmade German dinner suit for university, which is gorgeously cut and light enough not to get too hot. And years ago I spent ~$250 on a long cashmere and wool coat by Valentino, which is the nicest thing I own. It's almost 4 years old and still looks like new, and it's incredibly soft and warm. Also has Italian lapels (as opposed to normal English ones), so I look like a Russian spy if I put the collar up

I used to do that, but sometimes you get the real thing, and other times it's a cheap counterfeit. I just can't be bothered wasting my time searching through the open air markets for the good stuff. And in Hong Kong, a lot of the "black market" places won't let you try the stuff on to see if it fits.

      • Shoes: HK$800 - 1,000 which usually gets me good quality stuff. Like one of my friends says: Buy good shoes and a good bed because you're either in one or the other.

Shirts: About HK$250 which will get me all-cotton dress shirts.

Pants: about HK$100. The strange thing about Hong Kong is that a pair of Levis will cost HK$650, but in Canada I can get them for HK$300.

Suits: A good suit will cost about HK$2,500.

        Sports jacket: HK$1,300

        • The jeans I'm wearing cost about $25 or $30, the shirt cost about $5 or $10, and the shoes cost about $30. I forget how much my socks and boxers cost -- probably somewhere in the range of $1500 to $1600, because I loves me some silk gold-plated boxers.

It's not illegal here either. We have a street - Petaling Street, in the capital dedicated to selling all theses items. If you come by this way be sure to stop by. They've redone the place so that now there's a shade over the street.

However if you're looking for really hard to find items like Russian FLIR binoculars or nightvision scope, come after midnight. Be careful, though.

They're 32inch waist, which is what I am now, however they're a small 32, so are too tight in the legs and hips for me now. I was a 30 when I bought them, and they fitted great.

Woo hoo. You seem to be paying too much for most of these - except for the Levi's jeans.

The ones I'm wearing cost £15.

Tescos are currently selling them for £4.

                      • It's so materialistic isn't it, you pay for a name sewed/embroidered somewhere on the thing. The fact remains the same - I think there is rarely a quality issue now as they all seem to be made in sweatshops in China. To me, on so many levels, the fashion industry is the pinnacle of everything that is nasty about capitalism. But the amount I spend on clothes? I think similar to the average amounts shown above. I do look out for a bargain and I resent paying through the nose for, what are essentially, pieces of cloth.

So how much would you pay for a shirt, trousers and shoes?

Among the crap I got today, I bought a "nice" shirt for $135 (although I'd usually spend 50-70 bucks) some Jeans for $110 and $190 for a pair of boots (on sale).

Am I a lamer n00b clotheswise, or a terrible wastrel?
Welcome to the rush of a shopping spree

A casual shirt @$135 is nothing to laugh at. I spent less on an "expensive" t-shirt at Bloor a month ago and still love it. Dressier, collared shirts generally start in the $100 range for anything nice. Jeans @$110 is moderately priced. A sale pair of $190 boots had better be some good looking kicks (hey, I've spent $450 on a BOSS pair but still wear em 3 years later)

Again, that's some moderate pricing there for casual clothing. as Ming pointed out, nothing in comparison to businesswear, so no big deal - spoil yerself now and again, right. When you start dropping over $200 on jeans, $350 on a Prada t-shirt and so forth at Holt Renfrew - kick yourself in the teeth, please.

                              • I actually bought clothes for about $100 yesterday. Got two pairs of jeans and a thing I don't know what's it's called. Like a pullover, except you can open it with a zipper at the front.

Before that, um, I bought some underwear for a few dollars in Munich in June, cause I had forgot bringing along spare boxers. Before that? Don't know; suffice to say, I don't spend very much money on clothes, and those I buy I use till they fall apart.

My natural state is wearing jeans, a t-shirt, and, if it's colder, a pullover or similar. I'm dressed so right now, with the twist everything I wear is black - I usually rather wear blue jeans, and most of my t-shirts and pullovers are dark but not black.
