  • Did Hugo Chavez really rock the righties?

To move the discussion out of the Russian thread, back to here.

There have been serious questions as to the validity of Chavez's election results due to the massive discreprency between the final results and the exit polls.

Now Agathon says that the exit polls were banned, but to me that just adds to the pile of suspicion against Chavez.

    Chavez is God.

Do not question the modern-day idol of the Reds, lest ye call down upon ye the wrath of all Reddom....

So Jimmy Carter is not an unbiased election overseer?

I said nothing about Jimmy Carter. In fact I think he is right when he says that he found no evidence of tampering.

However, I also think that he didn't look hard enough, not through deliberate avoidance, but rather, simple neglect.

Exit polls are completely unreliable at the best of times. The actual votes didn't match the polls? OMG! They must have LIED. Surely they will go straight to hell for that.

Well, we had a swing of 8 percent in the final day, but 40 percent?

                    Give me a break.

These is exit polls, not opinion polls. People routinely lie about who they voted for when leaving the ballot box. In many cases, it's a simple case of prudent self-preservation to do so.

So what would be the motivation for the massive anti-Chavez vote in the polls before the election?

As with so many other things in contemporary Venezuela, apparently there were contradictory opinion and exit polls. So you can pick whichever fits your particular ideology and go ahead from there. Easy enough.

There is still no clear evidence of fraud, though. Just a lot of claims and "possible" arguments, given certain less than optimal circumstances that surrounded the electoral process (which could have been avoided if the two sides didn't hate each other so much). Until something much more concrete shows up, it's all up in the air and the victory of Chavez should be accepted.

What seriours questions? You mean those raised by the LOSERS? The election was certafied fair by several international agencies. The right-wingers lost. Get over it already.
