  • The problem was that the first resolution was passed ambiguosly, and deliberately so.
One day Canada will rule the world, and then we'll all be sorry.

    • They are also excellent tourist traps and add to the scenery. We love them.
They depress me, and I'm sure their builders would be depressed as well.

If I'm going to travel to Catholic churches, I'd rather go when they are full with people attending mass, and not the empty mausoleums.

Hence my dollars will go to the Phillippines, thank you very much.

        Ours aren't empty.

In summer you have a waiting line of at least 30 minutes to merely enter the Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris.

The medieval period is different from today. Why should we assume their motivations to be the same as ours?

I think it's much more plausible that they built them, not for pilgrimages, but for devotion, for worship, for their own use within the community.

Granted many would inspire pilgrimages, but who would go to a Cathedral built merely for that purpose? Seems to me the cathedral comes first, and then the pilgrims find out about it later.

              • Dunno, though cathedrals like that are best used for attracting potential converts than everyday worship.

                  Back then, or today?

You'd be surprised. The smaller buildings, while less inspiring, are also less intimidating. Smaller congregations are easier to get to know, and you feel more of a community.

Duh. To take pictures of course. There is always the odd worshipper in a cathedral, but the bulk of visitors are tourists. Especially so in a cathedral as touristy as Notre Dame.

Both need a legitimation. That's my point, golubchik. If the US uses 1441 as excuse for an unilateral intervention, and 1441 doesn't explicitly legitimate the US to intervene, China could do this with exactly the same right. Nothing, absolutely nothing in the UN charter legitimates the Yanks to be the worlds police.

By the way, I love Spain. Sunny country, friendly people. And so reasonable!

And while your army is occupied in Iraq, we would invade your homeland!
