Good to see that human tragedy can still be used politically.

      who's using it politically?

      -=Vel=-

EDIT: I mean, besides the group responsible?

The similarities between this and another not-so-long-ago terract are inescapable.

People are gonna compare the two...and the responses.

You managed to bring the US Presidential election into this, which I find absolutely disgusting, but perhaps not all that surprising.

Leave this thread for the topic of the airliners, shouldn't be too hard.

Putin is running for President of the US? That's....interesting. The comparison was between national leaders facing a similar tragedy...NOT one presidential hopeful vs. a president.

          Your disgust is misplaced.

            1. There was one Chechen female among passengers on each of the two flights.

            2. Those two women have been the only passengers whose relatives didn't show up or even make a phone inquiry regarding their fate.

            3. Whole bodies of all passangers have been recovered except for the bodies of those two women.

            4. The debris of both planes appear on the ground in the following order: fuselage, cockpit, tail. The "normal" order should be: tail, fuselage, cockpit. This can only be explained by an explosion occurring in the tail section.

            5. Traces of explosives have been discovered in the tail section of one of the planes (thus far).

Preliminary conclusion: two female Chechen suicide bombers (one in each plane). They blew themselves up while in the tail section (presumably in the toilet). The explosions were not too strong, so that the bodies of the other passengers were not disfigured, yet strong enough to bring the planes down.
uhh, where did they put the explosives?

Unless I just havne't been paying attention, I'm surprized by how little play this story has gotten in the US. You'd think this would be a major story.

I agree. Between the Olympics and the republican convention/election, there has been almost no news on this

We don't give much play to the Chechen war in general. Why should this little sideshow be different?

Primarily, I would think, because of the similarities between it and our own airline incident not long ago....

I care. I'm interested to see what the Russians conclude and what they decide to do about it. It goes without saying that the act is heinous and I'm sorry for the families/friends of the victims, but since I don't have any personal connection, it's the outcome/aftermath I'm mainly interested in.

Is this really true? I hate to think that americans think the russians deserve this terrorism because of this thing with the chechnyans.

                          That would be very hypocritical.

If we are going to play this bull**** war on terrorism thing, then we must support anti-terrorism efforts of other countries such as Russia. We should be concerned about this.

Indeed. Furthermore, we should be trying to help (to the extent that our intelligence people actually have anything useful to the Russians).

Agreed. I just hope America doesn't come out of this looking even more hypocritical than we already are.

Its not that Russians deserve it...its that the public looks at it as an inner conflict, which Americans almost never take a huge interest in (unless, of course, it involves Israel or Iraq). This "Islambouli Brigade" is also claiming that they had 5 people on each plane...highly doubtful. It was probably Chechen seperatists, who don't always take responsibility, and this group is just looking to take advantage of that. If it is found to be an international group, that's when American interest will kick in.
