3 Liberal seats in Quebec Even when the Liberals were reduced to 40 seats in 1984 they had more than 3 seats in Quebec. There are ridings in Montreal and Gatineau where you will never get people to switch their vote from Liberal. Count on at least 8 and probably 10-15 minimum Liberal seats in Quebec.

I'm just going by the last election's electoral districts and the fact that the BQ have almost 35 points on the Liberals. Even given the fact that there are strong Liberal bastions, depressing the Liberal vote by that margin is enough to give the BQ victory even in formerly staunch federalist ridings.

In fact, with the Conservatives at 15% and the Liberals at 22%, the Conservatives are second in 20 Quebec ridings.

Back in 1984, there did not exist a federal sovereigntist party like the BQ to compete with the Liberals in Quebec, so this situation is completely different from previous elections.

The "free vote" is just a loophole tactic for avoiding the issue. This lets Harper say he's got no plans to ban abortion, but then turning around and saying he would allow a *wink*wink* "free vote" if the Conservatives form a majority. Of course, we know how the Conservatives would all vote.

As opposed to the NDP where a Catholic priest cannot be prolife as he has to toe the line of his party?

Free votes are free votes. I'm glad to see that Harper is not afraid to let the people vote on issues that concern them, rather than feeding people the vision from Ottawa.

Hello? Zero tolerance means owning a copy of Romeo and Juliet will be illegal. The Liberals government amended the law to take into account things like Romeo and Juliet.

We have a responsibility to children to protect them from predators. That's what the problem is with child pornography, which should not include Romeo and Juliet.

Excuse me? Who is attacking our northern islands and waters? And we already have a single civilian coast guard agency.

Denmark claims some of the islands, and has a far better claim of sovereignty than we do.

Secondly, our 'coast guard' guards the coast in name only.

Unlike the current law that requires people to get ... firearms safety training.

That spends money on a registration boondoggle. The gun registry does nothing to control guns.

So it's going to be a "Made in Canada policy" that sticks to our existing international commitments. In other words, exactly what we've been doing for decades.

What was the last international commitment that Canada has upheld without the help of the Americans? We can't even deploy our peacekeepers without the Americans help, due to the antiquity of our Sea Kings.
