I think some people are being a bit too hard on this couple. I mean, from my perspective, they were living in a state of innocence. I mean, they may be quite intelligent, but simply ignorant of sex - ignorant is not the same as stupid.
It's sort of like how in grade and middle school it's always akward trying to figure out what the different sexual terms are. You don't want to be on the receiving end of some twit saying "I can't believe you don't know that!!! You're such a little kid!!!".

I never received the intimate details of other peoples' experiences in middle school, or even well into high school, and then only rarely. But then again, I hung out with a bunch of geeks and we didn't exactly see a lot of action. I don't know who you were hanging out with but it was obviously a bad crowd - a bunch of no-goodniks!
