Average IQ by state and how they voted in 2000: notice a pattern here?
How would we know, they don't get to vote for anyone other than communists.
edit: are there stats showing the intelligence of the average communist compared to everyone else? Might be kinda tough since so many "communists" are quite happy to be rid of that system once the tanks stop rolling in everytime there's a threat of the system collapsing.
There's no ****ing way New Jerseyites are smarter on average than New Yorkers.
HA HA! We're smarter than yooooou . And that even includes places like Newark and Camden.

I recall a game show where people took IQ tests and the audience could play along on the website. They also answered a bunch of optional questions about their education, background, annual income, etc. One was political affiliation. Democrat and Republican both averaged at the same number, IIRC 102.
What these stats show is that the urban Northeast, where the vast majority of universities are, have higher IQs on average.
Here's a case in point. Take the highest rated state, Connecticuit. Its average, is, no doubt, high because of Yale and a few other universities there. My sister has an IQ of 175, and she goes to Yale. She votes in Maryland. It definitely is not the residents who are raising the score. Other than Yale, New Haven is, for the most part, a town of poorly educated low-income minorities. Hartford is similar. Obviously, non-resident university students are being counted. What's wrong with this picture? Connecticuit has a hugely inflated score, entirely because of people who don't vote there.

WTF? There are people here that participiate in IQ tests and take them seriously? You do realise that the fundamental reason why they have been created is to grab money from idiots who want to feel themselves more important than they really are?
I read pretty much this whole thread and have not heard the obvious.
How did they come up with IQ's. IQ tests are not regularly given to the entire population in the U.S. At least not where I live. No goverment organization exists to mark every citizen's IQ test results.
And as I said before, there is no way my state should be that high on the list. Trust me.
And no you cannot extrapolate IQ from education level. Technically only have a high school education, but I have a fairly high IQ.

Is that because all students vote in their home state, or is that her choice? I know students here can choose, since their residence is at both for roughly equal times.

That is true, however it can be an indicator of how far in school you will go. IQ doesn't usually change much with education. My IQ now (end of high school) is pretty similar to my IQ taken 4 years ago (mid high school), and probably won't change during the time I'm at university (or at least I hope not). However people with a high IQ are more likely to go to uni. IIRC, I read a study a while ago that showed the average American has an IQ of 100, the average college graduate 115 and the average post-grad doctoral student 125.
You can teach, to some degree, IQ, in that practicing IQ tests will generally raise your score somewhat, but general education will not raise it. It may be able to give an educated guess as to whether you'd be able to go to college or post-grad stuff, but actually doing those will not raise your IQ by a significant margin.

Nevada? 22nd We are far lower than that. Trust me. That chart is waaay off.
Well, like half the population is in Vegas, right? Multimillion-dollar casinos are a pretty good scam to get in on. The owners and workers might be pretty smart. It's the mouth-breathing tourists eager to throw their money away that are stupid, and they aren't residents...
Error Correction: The source of this data is not "Wealth of Nations" as it had been attributed to us. A reader writes in and tells us he has the book (Sorry to hear that Mike) and the state IQ's aren't in it. This is a huge relief as the book is one of those race/IQ books. So we're still trying to track down the source for the IQ scores. As this is all a bit of good fun we aren't to concerned with the source. We know that Republicans are mentally impaired. If they weren't, that would just make them greedy.
