  • I agree with Boris on Jersey. First, because it seems to be a typically thing for CT'ers to have baseless despise for NJ. Second, because I happen to have pretty good info on just how ****ing nasty NJ is (environmental contamination).

edit: are there stats showing the intelligence of the average communist compared to everyone else? Might be kinda tough since so many "communists" are quite happy to be rid of that system once the tanks stop rolling in everytime there's a threat of the system collapsing.

My IQ now (end of high school) is pretty similar to my IQ taken 4 years ago (mid high school), and probably won't change during the time I'm at university (or at least I hope not). However people with a high IQ are more likely to go to uni. IIRC, I read a study a while ago that showed the average American has an IQ of 100, the average college graduate 115 and the average post-grad doctoral student 125.

You can teach, to some degree, IQ, in that practicing IQ tests will generally raise your score somewhat, but general education will not raise it. It may be able to give an educated guess as to whether you'd be able to go to college or post-grad stuff, but actually doing those will not raise your IQ by a significant margin.
Well, AFAIK, there are many questions that can be solved with acquired abilities, such as math. IQ tests also tend to have logical questions which are a breeze if you did Logic courses and the anagrams are usually very easy to those who play wordgames regularly.

IQ test results can be increased with acquired abilities, which are more likely to be found in more educated people.

All very true. You can teach IQ, and skills that will improve it. However general level of eduction does not increase IQ. Getting a degree, for example, will not raise your IQ, unless it teaches specific skills that improve it, like Logic or numeracy. Doing IQ tests, literacy/logic/number games will increase it. Getting a degree won't, usually.

Also, IIRC, it was found that even formal logic courses have only a small effect on a persons IQ, although this was read in the MENSA magazine a while ago, so I do not have an online source.

                          • As if I wasn't going through a difficult enough time already, now I find out that Ohio's average IQ is the same as Michigan's.

That clinches it. Who can tell me how to tie a noose?

But for the outbreak of war, Neville Chamberlain would have been considered one of the most successful Prime Ministers in history. Had the country gone to the polls "normally" in 1940, he would have won an overwhelming landslide...

But for creating a huge deficit and overstretching the US military and making Iraq and Afghanistan even worse hellholes than before, Bush would have been considered one of the most successful Presidents in history.
