Is he admitting that there were no WoMD to begin with?

Isn't it a crime to lie to Congress about war?

Can't Presidents be impeached for crime? Pretty please?

I rather have a joking president than a lying president.

The correspondents' dinner is where you specifically are encouraged to make fun of yourself, your own foibles, and others (gently). It has been like this for decades. I seriously doubt the dems will use footage from this event, but you never know.

I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891

I absolutely despise Bush's policies and everything he stands for.

But come on, you gotta appreciate a guy who has a healthy sense of humour (for an American anyway ) and isn't afraid to show it in the position he's in.

Bush showed himself playing cards on Air Force One and cracked that he was on his way to an international summit and using a special deck to help him bone up on the names of the leaders he was about to meet.
I kinda like that one (Especially since he couldn't remember the name of our PM when he was visiting Bush a few weeks ago )

That's nice, but the issue is not that the president made jokes about himself -- the issue is the content he used.

The "foreign leaders deck of cards" joke is okay. At least no one died when he couldn't remember the Prime Minister of...uh...Dutch...er...Dutchistan.

You should tell our media that

Anyway, I think Bush should just've just called our PM Harry Potter like everyone else does

Nothing is off limits at this annual event. Just a couple of years ago, Bill and Hillary were making jokes about Bill's philandering ways. Bill's philandering and lying ways is what led us to a rare and highly negative constitutional event.

Several presidents have flat out lied about justifications for going to war. Some of our best presidents did so. Knowing this, and believing that the worst GW Bush could realistically be accused of is exageration wrt WMDs (I don't believe he even did that, but anyway...), I don't find the subject matter at all untoward.

Now if Hitler had tried a joke in which he was hunting unsuccesfully for the certificate of origin which he could not produce (in contravention of his own race laws) with some SS character standing by about to cart him off to the death camps as a result, that would have been truly tasteless.

                        I've just imagined it.......

At least he has some humor. His jokes won't bring back the soldiers. Stop being whining pussies.

I think Hitler never made any joke in his life. Göring was probably the only Nazi with some sense of humor. all the other Nazis must have been an annoyance to work with.

if this joke is some form of accepting his error on WMD's(e.g. he started a war while either lieing to the american people(he knew there were no WMD and still said so) or not knowing what he was takling about(he wasnt sure but still went ahead)) he should have the decency to (at least) not run in the next elections instead of making jokes about it.
mark, up till now, i thought you were a pretty smart guy

I think it is kind of ridiculous for people to whine about this. That is the problem with the world today, too many people like to sit around and B!TCH because things aren't going EXACTLY there way, or this or that wasn't given to them, or how someone owes them something because their great great great granddaddies dog's sister's cousin's owner was mistreated. We are a society of sniveling 8 yearolds throwing tempertantrums. I think we should just all go sue someone, that will make it better

"I thought you must be dead ..." he said simply. "So did I for a while," said Ford, "and then I decided I was a lemon for a couple of weeks. A kept myself amused all that time jumping in and out of a gin and tonic."
