It's mathematically possible for every other Eastern conference team that's going to make the playoffs to pass Tampa in points, but they still wouldn't gain any ground on them.

Oh, that is what you are complaining about. Well that is how it works in every other sport as well. You finish on top of your division, you get the high seed. It is necessarily for the whole idea of divisions to work.

Yeah, but at least this year Tampa's earned it -- they've been absolutely on fire since Christmas or so. They really haven't played their weak-sister divisional brothers enough to influence the standings that much (i.e. on their current 9-game unbeatean streak, only 3 were against Southeast opponents). It's not like the old days where the divisional rivals played each other 8 times a year...

Eh... they may indeed be... but it ain't the Dev's style. They may go through just playing their regular way (a hot goaltender is usually all you need sometimes). I wish they got another defender, but they probably didn't want to give up some hot prospect they got.

Because the Leafs love old men. If they could get Ron Francis' grandfather to strap on some skates, so much the better!

Francis: who is still pretty good and will make a good 3rd line centre.
Calle Johansson: solid defenceman.
Chad Kilger: Solid backup player.

They got these guys for nothing.

Add that to Leetch and that's pretty good.

INDIANAPOLIS -- Disgraced former U.S. figure skating champion and aspiring boxer Tonya Harding is trying minor league ice hockey next.


The Indianapolis Ice of the Central Hockey League announced Monday that it has signed Harding, 33, to join the team for its game Friday against the Colorado Eagles.


It has been 10 years since Harding's ex-husband hired a hit man to attack rival Nancy Kerrigan at the 1994 national championships. Harding has always denied knowledge of the attack, but she pleaded guilty to conspiracy to hinder prosecution, was stripped of her 1994 national title and was banned from amateur figure skating competition.


In 2002, the Ice signed 7-foot-7 former NBA player Manute Bol for a one-game stint with the team, but he never made it on the ice as his feet swelled inside his custom-made skates.

Broken neck as in fractured vertabra, not broken neck as in paralyzed.

Bertuzzi was right to stick up for Naslund, but not in the way he did. Except for his offensive skills, sometimes I swear he's the second coming of Sergio Momesso.

Well, the 'Nucks made some good moves today with the acquisition of Geoff Sanderson & Marty Rucinsky... Too bad anything they do in the playoffs will be soiled by Bertuzzi's sickening act of brutality yesterday.

He should get, at the VERY least, the same punishment as McSorley.

As for the Salo Trade:

Decent move. It lifts a weight off the team, both salary-wise and conscience-wise. Now we can just focus on Markkanen and Conklin. Tommy was a good guy, but his paycheck just couldn't be justified anymore.

Now, I'd have prefered that he wasn't traded to a divisional opponent, but I understand that the market was thin, so I can deal with it.

Trust me, I know the difference.

Regardless, an example needs to be made of Bertuzzi. And the next meathead who does something like this. And the one after that. Forever and ever until these players get the message.

Bertuzzi was right to stick up for Naslund

The hit on Naslund, while vicious, was questionable at worst in regards to legality. He just put his head down at the wrong time; as much as I hate the Avs, Moore is not a dirty player--at least not on the level of a McSorley or a Claude Lemieux.

Stick up for Naslund by hitting Moore legally. Not like a coward by punching him from behind and driving his head into the ice...

Mark my words. Players are getting bigger all the time. Players Bertuzzi's size will become more common in the years to come, and one of them will end up killing a smaller player with actions like this. It has to end now.

The NHL opted not to take any action against Moore, but it was suspected that eventually the Canucks would.

They were very lucky to get Naslund back so soon.

Stick up for Naslund by hitting Moore legally. Not like a coward by punching him from behind and driving his head into the ice...

If they had let the Canucks do something in the 5-5 tie, then this would not have happened.

12 games seems about right, for Bertuzzi.
