            In the civilized North, where liberals rule, a marriage license costs $35 and you can get married on the same day and they take credit cards. Not so here in the South. Three day waiting period and $85, unless I go to some course telling me all about marriage, but you have to go to the Courthouse to get the list of people teaching the course, cuz they haven't bothered to put it up on the web yet, despite he law being 5 years old.


            I prefer the South's way. Actually I'd add more time for a waiting period, and maybe require the counseling. As long as it makes people think about actually getting married, it may nip some future divorces in the bud .

                Of course, I think I can justify that because with civil marriage comes benefits from the state. In order for the benefits you gotta wait a week and undergo pre-marriage counseling. Quid-pro-quo .

                Of course, if you just want a religious ceremony, not honored by the state, go right ahead .

                    Imran, most churches set up premarital counselling for couples well before they get married, sometime after they get engaged, so you wouldn't have it easier.
