In England:
To 'knock someone up' - to call a person on the telephone; a vestige of when people would knock on a person's door before the invention of Alexander Graham Bell.
A telly - a television.

A '******' - a pack of smokes. A ****** is also a bundle of sticks (archaic term).
To be 'on about' something - to talk about something.
The Tube - the underground rail - called the Subway in New York.
A 'poof' - a homosexual male.
A ****er - one who ****s, that is, one who spanks the monkey, chokes the chicken, slaps the salami, points Percy at the porcelain, etc., etc.
A poncy git - some old ****er who is so concerned with his appearance that he wanders out into traffic and then curses the cars for driving on the road.
