  • I just got my ass kicked

Since I've made lots of violent threads before, mostly me being the top dog in them, but it happened finally, I got my ass kicked good. It wasn't bad, I didn't get my ass kicked period, but I got KO'd. First time in my life for real.

I had a friendly match with a good friend of mine, we've been sparring and training together for a long time, and we finally thought we'd go little harder against each other... Now this is the play-by-play, so if you're not interested in details, you can stop reading now:

I was too cocky, I didn't even take any special effort to this one.. well this was a friendly fight, so no bad blood but I should have been more serious. My friend is not very good at ground game, but he is seriously good in stand up. So what do I do? I make my game plan, to take him down and submit him, I can't trade with this dude, I'm not so good compared to him. I'm relaxed, maybe too relaxed not worrying a bit, except his stand up. Well, just before the fight starts, I decide inside my head 'damn.. I'm going to play his game and stand up!'.

What a stupid idea that was. Throwing away perfectly good game plan, and the only plan I should have been doing. Take him to my world. But no... mighty Pekka had to play and try his luck. Well I ran out of luck.

We start by feeling each other up a bit, bouncing and circling each other throwing few jabs. We're both little holding it back until he says 'come on let's go!' and we pick it up. I'm throwing double jabs with my left, trying to set up my over right hand which I've been working for. I try it few times, but he blocks or dodges them countering with leg kicks. I'm getting a bit frustrated, as I notice that I'm not delivering any good shots in. Then I fake a shoot, and go for another over right, this time connecting but it was too weak. He gets a thai clintch with me, gives me few knees and I eat them to the body.

I'm starting to feel like I should have sticked to my original plan. He sees me being a little confused and goes with a punching combo with few jabs and straights, busting my lip and follows up with a liver kick. Now I'm really starting to regret standing up as I'm swallowing my own blood. I go for the double leg and shoot, and I get him to the ground easy. I'm in his guard now and I'm thinking which way should I now win this fight. I'm thinking arm bar, and start setting it up with ground and pound. To my surprise he turns his back to me and I naturally think 'great, now I'll just choke him out' and get his back. From this point on, I can't remember what happened but I was told the rest of the story. I get the choke, but it doesn't sink in and he tries to get up and I try applying more pressure. I slip off him, because his back was slippery, and were both on the ground and I still have his back. He goes for backdoor smoothly and fast, then not knowing what to do with my leg gets up and I get up too. I try a roundhouse kick to the body, but he's able to grab it and *BOOOOOM* a huge right hook to me jaw and I fell on my ass, unconscious, my leg still in his hand. It was a beautiful KO by him.

So that's what I did today. What did you do?

Not to throw cold water on your jubilation, but you may want to think about the serious consequences of being knocked unconcious. Think concussion! Think permanent brain damage!

I never liked sparring. I never liked hurting people accidentally and you cant practice dangerous or lethal moves anyway.

Sure. I don't even fight to compete. I only do sparring and this is one of my few harder fights. I don't even have a record. Besides, we weren't out with intention to hurt the other seriously. Just to have a good hard fight. And we couldn't of have gone for the whole 9 yards, or it would have been illegal. And we wouldn't even want that.

Just good old rolling with not holding back. We are both experienced and in good shape, so accidental injuries are less anyway. But sure something can always happen when you go out hitting and kicking someone, or twisting their limbs.

Besides we took all safety precautions, we had our own 'cut man', not to let us keep going but to be sure if cuts happen they are treated like they're supposed to be treated. He's not professional, but he knows what he's doing. And we had first aid kit near, and hospital is also only 5 min drive away. So nothing that much to worry about. And if you're so worried about getting injured, then you can't do this anyway. I like sparring though this wasn't sparring. But thanks for your concern, I'm ok.

        Think permanent brain damage!

Hearing Pekka's story, it seems to me that he is experienced in sparring and knows how to protect himself from that.

            What are you guys.. pussies?

This was the first time I ever got KOd. Prolly be the last too. I argue that it's a lot more dangerous to go to boxing gym and do sparring there. They get hit to the head a lot. Since we don't have limitations that much, it means there are less hits to the head. It just happened that I got hit to my jaw and my brains started shaking so fast that they decided to black out for a second .

I was going to say that, but I decided that I need more senility before I start flaming people.

Being knocked unconcious (or not) can sometimes depend on the surprise of being hit that way. I remember pugel fighting with a friend just prior to para training (he was killed fighting in Rhodesia a few years afterward). I wacked him immediately just after the start and his guard went down. After that, it was 3 min of whoopass

No, it was strange, it was kinda like being unconcious while standing. He didnt fall down but he was too stunned to put up any effective defense!

You see it more with boxers where they cant defend themselves anymore but are determined to not "go down".

Yeah, he was rocked then, rocked good! It's sometimes funny looking. Even more in mixed martial arts, where they can do the whole show, so what you need to do is clinch so you don't get beat down while you're rocked. That can be called 'the fish dance' when you stumble with your eyes confused and body not functioning .
