Hey TCO, I think the Germans pushed the British Romans into the Cornwall, Wales and Scotland. This is why English originally had no Latin components. It was purely German.
Also, the legend of King Arthur is about the British Romans taking a stand against the Germans. In fact, some believe that Arthur was a legion commander who somehow stayed in Britain when the legions withdrew to the continent.
Knowing this, it is somehow "quaint" that the English view Arthur as one of "their" legendary heroes, when he was the enemy.
