My parents bought our house for ~65-70,000 euros in 1995.

Its current value is ~200-250,000 euros

3 bed semi reasonable area just ouside Leeds £120000 aprox
Space is big. You just won't believe how vastly, hugely, mind- bogglingly big it is. I mean, you may think it's a long way down the road to the chemist's, but that's just peanuts to space.

Cool, I go on that train line to work, you get jumpers from time to time round there and you are 4 hours late getting in to work. Selfish bastards, why can't they just slit their wrists

We rarely have houses here. We have appartments, land value is too high.

my parents' ~70 square meter 2 bedroom appartment in a working/lowermiddle class neighbourhood costs for arounnd 105k USD.

You still have to admit that you live in Leeds though...

I don't think that is a bad thing to admit to, its not like its Bradford.

                          Well I like it.

Actually if you smartened up Bradford that could be a great palce. As it is its a dump.

I might be moving anyway, to east yorkshire infact

Depends where you live just like everywhere, but there are no cheap areas here. In the relatively cheap area (somewhere with no civilization) house would go $250k cheapest. And that can be a crappy house too. In better areas, helsinkin suburb area or so normal houses are from $300k ->. But that's still relatively cheap, still in normal areas the land only (not even big!) goes often for $200k and then you still have to build them damn house.
My parents have been living in house they have here for a long time, but now the land value is over $200k and with the house, the whole thing is $390k to recent estimation (last year), but prices have gone up since then. And no, this is not a mansion, just a normal house in normal area. It's sick. Just few days ago it was in news that even our ministers have loans to pay because of their houses. You have to include, that we make less money with higher income tax, so it's really very super expensive after that!

SO basically it means, that if you get a house, you'll have to go to bank and pay loans back for the rest of your natural life. It's normal procedure here. They get you like a prisoner. Makes me sick. With $25k a year I'll be making after degree, you can count how long it takes me to a get house after all other necessary expenses. Yes. Forever. I want to get out of heeeeeeeeereeeeeeee..
                            In da butt.
