  • How much does a house cost where you live?

I wonder how much house prices vary accross the world (I have a good idea here in the UK).

Describe your house, where it is and how much its worth.

    To give you an example:

I live in a modern two bedroom end terrace (small kitchen, lounge/diner 17ft x 12ft, two bedrooms about 12ft x 11ft and a small bathroom, garden is about 40ftx40ft). The house is in Milton Keynes, United Kingdom

House is in a relatively high demand / high value area within Milton Keynes. Milton Keynes is in southern UK (50 miles north of London) so in about the top 25% of average house values.

My house was recently valued at £128,000 ($/euro 200,000 approx).

In Sacramento the average price of a detached single family home is about $250,000. We're I grew up (and hopefully will move back to some day) in San Diego the average is right around $550,000. Of course if you want to live in one of the more desirable neighborhoods then you can expect to pay much more.

In my hometown, it's ridiculous... Anywhere from 300,000 to 750,000 for a decent house.
Where I'm living temporarily (at college) the prices are ridiculous in comparison. Anywhere from 75,000 to 120,000.

Er, thats why I gave an example, or why not describe your house, where it is and how much its worth

A family home (typical 4 bed detached) near me costs about £250,000 ($/euro 400,000).

I live in Aptos, CA which is on the coast near Santa Cruz, soulthwest of Silicon Valley. The median prices of homes in my area are in the $350+ range.

My own home is 2450 sq. ft, two car garrage, three bedrooms and a den, family room, two decks and around 8,000 sq. ft. of highly landscaped lot. I believe houses of this description go for around $650k+, depending on ocean view. Ocean view property will be $1-10 million, depending. One of the homes in my neighborhood was recently listed for $10 million. But it has a good ocean view.

Everyone here complains about the prices of homes. The Santa Cruz area has long been rated as one of "least affordable" areas in the entire country. This index compares incomes to prices. The median income in our area, in other words, is very low relative to the price of homes.

As a result, even doctors are leaving wholesale due to the very high cost of living.

I have absolutely no idea how much my house is worth anyway.

We got a 3000 sq foot house (plus huge basement) in a very nice neighborhood for $215,000CDN back in 1997.

The house's current value was placed at $400,000CDN last year.

Well, I live in London, so I needn't elaborate for UK people.

4 bedroom house, north london: probably £300-£350K (I keep revising this upwards).

My parents' house was bought in the early eighties for around $60,000, but is now valued at approximately $450,000.

                        I don't own a house.

Winnipeg, Canada, pop. 700,000, largest city & capitol of Manitoba - all in Canadian $$

3 bedroom, 1200 sq. ft bungalow (with finished basement about doubling the sq. ft.), middle class area, $79-120,000.

                          You can get a decent 2 bedroom for $69 - $85,000.

                          Riverside properties add $20-30,000.

                          Suburban estates $250,000 +

You can buy a small house in the not good centre of town for under $25,000, but you might have to remove the bodies of the previous owners yourself.

We have amongst the cheapest housing prices of any major Canadian city.

And we have pro sports teams, theatre, a symphony, a ballet and comparativerly cheap hydro-electric rates... and a socialist government.

That explains your pathetic economy, no?

Asher - Manitoba has the lowest unemployment rate in Canada and our hydro power will outlast your oil - bust & boomer !

Some friends of mine moved to Calgary last year. They paid $250,000 for a house in the University district that would have cost them $79,000 in Winnipeg.
