    Houses built in philly
    1960 to 1969 81,148 12.3 % of houses
    1940 to 1959 222,871 33.7
    1939 or earlier 276,205 41.7

we got some old ass houses...
That's pretty typical of any older city in North America. Unless you want to be way out in the 'burbs in Toronto, or buy a new condo, good luck getting a house that was built much after WWII.

The fires got close to us, but nothing like in Canberra.

I probably don't know her, the local population is 150,000...

Not necessarily. It's much cheaper in some areas than others. Of course, West Vancouver is expensive, but Richmond is not bad. Burnaby is quite reasonable, and when you go out to Port Moody or something, it's pretty cheap.

west van, BP's westside, some places in burnaby, whiterock, etc...all suburbs have their expensive areas

the housing market in vancovuer is on fire...too bad its becoming stackable housing, condo condo condo.

will only get worse once the olympics come.

heck , even on the first block of the east side, property has increased waaaaaay too much

Westside Vancouver is expensive sure. Probably second only to West Vancouver.

It all depends where. I grew up in Port Moody, but on the north shore, near IOCO (don't know if you know where that is). Not too cheap there, but if you're in the heart of PoMo, yeah, it's much more reasonable. Of course, the same goes for all the other suburbs too.

actually, shaughnessy is more expensive than both of them...the BP's are way up there...

but then again, there are 4-12 million dollar houses in a few parts of the citieis

westvan is nice, but has bridge problems which will keep its land value below shaughnessy until they fix the lions gate bridge.....

urban, you ever live in van, i am born and raised here, you have alot of knowledge of the town i live in

My parents own a very large 3 bed detatched property in a pleasant suberb. The house has plenty of land around it, and is in the what is called the 'golden mile' - ie the nicest place to live in the town. It is however in one of the crappiest towns in the Country, and is therefore worth about £240-£250k.

My parents purchased our house 6 years ago for $174,000. They sold the half-twin we had been in for $151,000, which they had purchased in 1981 for $56,000.

I live in Boulder, Colorado in a three bedroom / two bath house. It's not large, with about 1500 finished square feet of space. I have about 1/3 of an acre of property and have been slowly doing good things to the landscaping since I bought this place in '94. The house was built in 1904 and was moved by the previous owner from a flood plain to its current location. I bought it for $125,000, gutted it and rebuilt it. All told I put about $80,000 into the place bringing it up to code and replacing all the wiring, plumbing etc. Almost everything on the inside of the house was replaced.

Today it is worth $460,000 (at least that what it is assessed for). I paid off the mortgage last year, which is nice.

But he touched it too much!

I only rent the house I'm in at the moment.

5 bedroom* terraced house including a loft conversion, bathroom with toilet, shower room with toilet, toilet, 1/4 acre garden 2 offroad parking spaces out front reasonably large kitchen. Gas central heating. 5 mins walk from town center.

Fairly poor state of repair, good enough for renting but if I bought it to live in I'd want to totally rework the plumbing and plastering downstairs and replace all the carpets etc. absolute minimum £10,000 of work to be done on it I'd say.

Just changed landlords and was sold for £250,000.

*It has 5 bedrooms for rental purposes but we use one of the bedrooms as a spare room/box room/weights room.
