Leeds is quite affluent, a fine city. Rotherham has the best standard of football in yorkshire however.

I amy live in Leeds, but i certainly do not support the team and I would always wnat rotherham to beat them
Space is big. You just won't believe how vastly, hugely, mind- bogglingly big it is. I mean, you may think it's a long way down the road to the chemist's, but that's just peanuts to space.

I recently bought a new two bedroom penthouse appartment.

        Price was around 90 000 €

Older houses usually go by the same price around here.
New houses usually cost twice as much.

San Rafael, the county seat of Marin County, California. If you don't know where Marin county is, we have two famous things to remember us by: we're on the other side of that "golden gate bridge" from San Francisco (there's an other side?), and we are the... um, proud home of John Walker Lindh.

The average home price would be more like $800,000 if it weren't for sh*tholes like the Canal District and Fairfax. Our county is home to 12 of the country's 25 richest towns, so if you want to get a house in Belvedere or Ross you'll have to fork over 1.2 to 1.5 million.

Ha! San Diego has that beat! Rancho Santa Fe is the second richest suburb/town in the US with only some place on Long Island eeking ahead.

Of course those rich bastards run up the price of housing so the rest of us can't afford to buy a home.

                    • On Birmingham's Southside, houses run around $300,000. You can get a house the same size in the suburbs for around 120,000. If you're willing to live in the "woods" of Alabama, you can get a house the same size for around 80,000.

                      • I'm moving to f'ing Vilnius.

Belvedere, CA is more like $4mm for your run of the mill place. The cheapest listing I saw was $2.8mm.

Housing is stupid expensive in the Bay area as others have posted.

Maybe we should move back to the Alabama woods...

Here is a local offering for a 2 bedroom x 1 bath beauty in my zip for just $639,000.

                          • Looks like its in Camden.

The whole area is just crazy. I can understand some rich bastard spending $1.5mm for a big house, but north of $600k for a tiny little place? It just doesn't make any sense. The monthly nut on it would be $3,000 and that is with $140k as a down payment.

                            I don't get it.

This is what people are talking about when they get worked up about a housing bubble in the USofA. For some areas of the country it is a serious potential problem. Most places aren't like this, but if that snowball starts rolling, it will be too late to try to get out of the way; and there is nothing that the Government should or even can do about it.

When interest rates go up (some day) housing prices will go down.

Nothing wrong with that. You might want to give Knoxville a try, if you're not totally stuck on the idea of living in a metropolitan area. This place is cheap, flush with energy and lush with greenery (K'ville is well biodiversified), and but 3 hours away from Atlanta and Nashville, and 5 hours away from Cincy (if you'd ever have a need to go there).

Also, no state personal income tax, (though the sales tax is 9% and does apply to food).
