Keep in mind this is primarily a coin bank first, an accurate globe second.

Looks like 1948 is the most likely candidate, it seems!

Che is right about Rumania though. If these is a 1947/1948 Globe then why does it show BessArabia (Maldova) as still Rumanian and not Soviet?

I am inclining towards plain wrong ( on the Indian map ), since he could've not guessed Israel, but he could've ignored the partition of India ( stupid yes, but possible without the existance of psychic powers. )

Oerdin, I am not sure when was Moldavia annexed to the SU, it is possible that at that point, it was Romanian Territory ( while of course, all of it was soviet controlled )

I find it hard to believe that he remembered Labrador not being part of Canada and forgot the partition of India. I can see someone who supported zionism putting the title of Israel on Palestine as well as the PAL label however before 1948. Its not too much of a stretch. But it would be a stretch to put PAL on the globe after independance.

Beijing is still Peiping and NOT the capital. That's pre-1949.

And that is the weirdest version of the borders of Tibet I've seen yet.

Man, so many changes in that time frame. Did they have to go through a map a week?

The company is located in Bryan, Ohio, less than 100 miles from the Canadian border.

French Indochina was pre '54? or 56?

In retrospect I like my globe even more now. Made at a time when borders all over have been recently changed, will be changed or are in transition. Pretty cool.

People who have asked about the US, Alaska is just labeled Alaska. I'm not sure if this necessarily means its a state or not. Hawaii is interestingly labelled the Hawaiian islands.

Laos and Cambodia declared independence in '53, IIRC.

I don't understand the Labrador & Newfoundland business. I was under the impression that the province of "Newfoundland & Labrador" came into being in 1949. Why does this map show Labrador as being part of Great Britain, but have Newfoundland be part of Canada?

The whole province joined confederation at the same time, I thought.

So i guess we have decided that this enchanting yet incorrect globe was made either in 1947 or 1948, though I think '47 seems a better guess.
