Alright fine, I was hoping to tease out a page more before my next post but here goes.

For the ME I'm thinking pre 1948 at least now, since Lebanon was given independance in 46, the same year the 'Trans-' was dropped off of Jordan. too bad its not pre-WWII. I guess we believe what we want to believe.

Does it have South Vietnam on the map? Also does it say Belize or British Hondures? Look at Africa; what colony names (if any) are listed? Angola & Mozambique or Portugese SW & SE Africa. Spanish Sahara or just Sahara?

If an independent Ghana is on the map then it is post 1959.

If the Portugese are out of Africa (pun intended) then it as atleast the mid 1970s; same with Sahara.

      Belize became independent in 1981.

If it is pre-1959 (Africa is colonized) then we can work off of things like is Alaska & Hawaii a state or a territory? Is Korea divided? Has India been partitioned(Yes, then post 1947)?

Post more pictures and I'll be able to contrain the date fairly well.

For those of you that may be wondering... Ohio Art is most famous for the Etch-a-sketch.

The company could have been behind on global history, but more up to day on US stuff... check to make sure that Alaska is a territory. It gained statehood in the late 50's.

do'h Oerdin! you pipped me! that will cost me a pint of something.

I was baffled by the non-existance of Lebanon as well.

But Israel ? Might I remind you that the name of the state was decided in 48'.

In other news, we have confirmation of it being pre-India split up.

No Tunisia, so it's before 56. Where's Lebanon?

Oh c'mon, everyone knew it was going to be Israel.

Thanks for the Ohio Art info, I thought I had heard of them before.

I'm afraid this globe is filled with geographical mistakes which makes any observation vulnerable from the beggining.

                Too many antithesis.

One should count them and compare them and then make judgement.

Or as Stern said check the american territories and interests and judge from there since the maker's geographical knowledge apart from those seems to be wanting.

it's After the creation of Israel, but before the split up of India.

I think this is as thin a timeframe as we can get, people.

1947 seems like the best fit to me although there is still the problem of Lebennon. What was the exact year of the Chinese invasion of Tibet? Tibet is still shown as independent. Bhutan is also way to big.

The existence of Sinkiang means before 1949.

                      No Pakistan, means before mid-1947.

Existence of Israel means after 1948 (although, this may be only an informal border).

                      I see a contradiction...

I'd say 1948, but the mapmaker clearly screwed up somewhere...

The only plausable explaination is the map is showing an informal Israeli border. Either that or it is just plain wrong.

                            yep, you're right.

esp. since One cannot point to the UN partition decision, since The name was decided upon before the declaration in 48'. I think.

Notice again, PAL is written beneath Israel and there is a very straight border between Israel and Transjordan(became Jordan in 1946)

                              I'm thinking 46-47.

1949, actually, IIRC. After 1948, for sure, since before then, Jordan didn't have the west bank, which was why it was called Transjordan.

And the UN partition plan for Israel/Palestine wasn't until 47, IIRC.
