Good to see that you have maintained this format for ages. I use to see the actual ETA on the turn timer but that has been missing for ages now. Can you guesstimate when the turn will end - I know that (for reasons unknown), our 48 hr clock takes about 54 hrs to run down. Or put in a link to civstats.

Comments: Well, this is our toughest city to prioritize right now, IMO. We desperately need more units to counter Imperio.
I totally agree with this comment. One method of shipping units to the Cape is via a galley. The only questions ... where is this galley coming from. The only way I can see it being useful is from the Cape itself or from Saxon.

The dreaded 'No Unit'. We could whip a galley out of here in 3 turns when it grows to size 4. I know that will kill this city for the GA but it will get a galley to the Cape to help us ship in units. I would suggest waiting until war is actually declared and seeing how the Cape is going before doing this ... just note it will take ... what ...5 turns to actually get to the Cape.

Re guarding this or bluebell - we have a fogbusting archer in the North who is actually not busting any fog - might consider putting her to good use as city guarison.

re Vassalage: it seems that only two mines have been changed into scientists at the capital, so no less commerce - would cost 25 gpt from the lost bonus while running cash. What's our current unit support/how many free ones does vassalage give?

I still think it would be worth it unless the unit support savings are real small (<10gpt.)

        OK, some interesting developments here....

Templars have cut the road, and Imperio are circulating Horses:

Templars are up to 3 Cats in their messy stack:

Here's the real news of the turn:

So Templars aren't researching anything, they're funding Imperio. Rabbits are also handing over their income to Imperio, and it looks like Banana needed Wheat!?

So should we put the Mace into the forest North of the cut road and maybe move over a Worker to reconnect?

I cannot see those pics. What is wrong with this forum? I cannot see them using IE either. Just the little red x's.

Weird. I could still see them - using IE - but they didn't show in attachments.

Anyway, I re-uploaded them so hopefully it's working now?

yes - I can see them now.

Just talked in-game to cres / PAL - have some stuff to share ... but first ...

what sort of a spineless weak kneed team do we look like? Imperio pillage our copper and we say "pls don't do that". They try again and we do next to nothing. Templar move units onto our road (a road they said we had a right to build) and we don't even send them a warning that pillaging that road will be seen by us as an act of war. Not insulting them is one thing, but letting them ignore us and walk all over us is too much. We must respond.

Never mind on Vassalage. Airstrip One currently has 50 (!) base commerce, so Bur is worth 25. Vassalage is only +9 free units, not nearly worth it. We'd pay 16 gold per turn (minimum 5 turns so 80 gold) and a few hammers for the extra promotions.

Ruff, we're biding our time out of necessity. What do you want us to do? Actually declare war? As we keep pointing out to the other teams, all that does is stalemate us on the bad side of the prisoners' dilemma while PAL runs away.

here is a summary of my chat with PAL ...

had a chat with cres in game - here is a summary of what we talked about:
                    • asked him to check on feedback from our latest email (philosophy trade) - he said there was no comments after posting it 29 hrs ago
                    • he then went further and said that we shouldn't expect a trade as PAL thinks that we will win this game ... thus they will be trying to slow us down (my words, not his)
                    • I filled him in on our situation re Imp and Templar (expiring NAP, units on our border, etc), also told him about the road pillage - hope I didn't over step here
                    • we briefly discussed the various power charts (I implied that we couldn't see templars - he said we were the strongest on our continent)
                    • he claimed he is only the diplo guy - not actually part of the team - said he was a noob (sunrise - do you know this guy?)
                    • I asked him about the impact on PAL if Temp and Imp close borders - he said about 16commerce ... he initially took it as a trade imbargo thread - I (hopefully) cleared that up
                    • I also mentioned the loss of resource trades - think he missed my hint that we would lose ivory - but he did say that he things PAL will try and maintain the balance (which is consistent with what they have told us before)
                    • I asked about the Rabbit war - he said they had no units inside their borders - that PAL was off attacking a barb city
pics of chat box in PAL thread (link to actual post).

Now - re that pillaged road / act of war. Here is one possible response ... (not attacking unit, must moving) ...

I know, I know. But we should have sternly said to them that pillaging that road would be seen by us as an act of war ... a road that they said we could build in the first place.

Edit: Oh - and when I logged in, templar had left the game paused!

                      • Perhaps we should upgrade spear in A1 to Pike. It looks like they are planning HA rush on A1.

Talking about responding, is there a potential for a pre-emptive strike against Templar and Imperio forces that are currently spread out in the open?

                        Comment

                        • EDIT: Missed new page. We should probably upgrade any spears to pikes. If absolutely necessary we can just slave pikes/spears in Airstrip One. Unless they have a LOT of horse archers, rushing them to our interior in a game without 2-city-elimination is going to see a lot of dead horse archers.

We can certainly do a preemptive strike. We can use our mace in the neutral area and some horse archers and kill every unit we can reach. But in order to do that WE have to declare war and we move the units out of position. The real thrust of the war should still come between the RB and Imperio one-move stacks in the north. The more we shift around the weaker we let ourselves be in Cape Town, sadly.

                          • Don't forget that we can't make any more moves this turn, since we've already ended ours.

BTW, how do we feel about Templars putting the game on hold? - especially since they've made quite a few moves already.

I posted my response in the Pitboss thread. Going forward teams shouldn't be able to put the game on hold at will. Krill?

                              • Krill, can we get a ruling on the number of teams required to vote for the game to be placed on hold? In this case, it is clear that Imperio and Templars are just using holidays as an excuse to decide whether to call off attack.
