  • Ugh. I don't even know how to respond right now. Templars and Imperio are running all over our neutral road network and daring us to declare war. Any major thrust of units towards Airstrip One and we are finished, that's the one weak spot in our defenses.

If someone sees a way out of this, please suggest it. Because I don't see any solutions.

    • Do we have a settler in the works? The only solution I can see is to settle bad ass and stock it with some units (from somewhere).

      • Unpause the game asap please.

        • All right, let's move on to the next turn.

          - I actually did see the Templar movement of the two spears (and shame on you Templars, for moving in the final 5 minutes of a game like this! Such an action clearly breaks the spirit of the double-move rule, if not the letter. ) and reacted to it by moving one of the maces in Cape Town to the tile next to them before the timer ticked over. We can still move back into Cape Town on the current turn if desired, or remain in position to hit the Templar spears if they move inland on a pillaging mission.
Wait, so did templars move a spear at teh end of a turn, then immediately move it at the start of the next turn?

I did unpause (about 12 hrs ago) the game when I found it paused.

I don't think they double moved - they just moved very late in the turn.

Well, I have had no internet access the last week, but my knee jerk response is: start whipping lots of troops.

Pikes have such an advantage over mounted troops that I think we can survive. Upgrade all spears to pikes, whip elephants/pikes everywhere that can cover Airstrip One, and as needed upgrade archers to longbows. We hurt our growth a lot and burn through all of our cash, but we can pull a lot of power from thin air. If Imperio moves their entire stack around Cape Town and completely bypasses it then we're in trouble, but so are they. We can be in their territory in one turn and start killing cities.

We may also want to pull workers off infrastructure work and put them to work on improving/rebuilding the road network as we're able.

                  All hope isn't lost.

They already cut the road though, so did they move at the end of the last turn, wait 12 hours, and then cut the road?

                  • What is Imperio's plan ... to walk their army past us while we are still at peace and sit near the Bad Ass site? Then declare war and march on our capital?

They cannot walk past the Cape while we are at war or we will kill their whole stack.

What is the downside of closing borders with Imperio - that will stop them walking past the Cape while at peace and force them to take the long road.

Another option is that we put together a raiding party of our own and send that towards the space between Imp and Templar - that will keep both teams guessing on our intentions - and hopefully freeze them.

But we have to have all our pikes in place ahead of time, since we lose Iron if both Templars/Imperio declare. And even to whip a pike, it needs to be started two turns ahead of time. Same goes for elephants.

That said, even spearmen (if we can keep our copper) can hold off horse archers. A one-mover stack is not a serious risk to A1, we'll have plenty of time to produce maces and longbows.

                      • One thing I would suggest is pausing infra buids in ALL cities to start military. (Cats in cities without barracks, maces in cities with barracks.) We should also ask Banana for an emergency loan to upgrade all pikes while we have Iron.

                        • I'm back and I checked the game. Looks like a lot went on while I was away. Things to note: We have 30 hammers of overflow in China Beach, I think that should be a 2-turn longbow rather than working on a forge. Our road network is not what it could be in the south. We can build roads in 1 turn with a pair of workers, and that should be a priority over dye plantations. They help us attack out of cities and retreat again. Britney's Spears to pike looks good to me.

                          • OK, lots of consensus for the Pike upgrades. Can someone please go in and actually do it before the DoW?

                            • Removing workers from Plantation and cottage duty is one emergency measure I don't agree with. I'd rather not found Red Dot than delay cottages any more. We are currently relying too much on intercontinental trade routes that we will lose when war starts. With that, and our cottages around Pink (and perhaps A1) about to be pillaged, we'll really regret not having any cottages in the south.

We should also draft an email to PAL telling them about Imperio/Templar/Rabbit alliance. If nothing else, they'll be angry at Imperio for feeding techs to rabbits. Can somebody upload to some image sharing site the picture of diplo screen, and pictures of our borders crawling with combined troops? (Or I'll do it in the evening when I get back from work.)

                              • That's true Zevis, but we loose our ability to leverage engineering and concentrate our forces without good roads. Obviously this is a long and epic game and we couldn't prioritize the road network all game, but while actually under attack nothing is more important than making sure our units can effectively traverse our interior.

Plus, in an emergency situation we should be working food and hammer, not commerce, tiles anyways.
