@Dreylin - Surely Imperio planned to declare during Turn 130. I don't know why they're not waiting for their Templar buddies if they really are coordinating the attack, but maybe Templars didn't committ many troops or even lied to Imperio about how many they were sending. But if Imperio didn't plan to go in this turn there was no reason for them to move their units last turn the way they did.

I'd rather not wait for the horns to trigger the GA. First, Imperio might wait until very late in the turn to declare, and second I want to play it safe with the moving units rule.

Yeah, of course you're right; for some reason I though that the flipped tile was going to be their second move this turn, not their first. (this despite having taken those screenies last night!)

I'm definitely in favour of whipping Pink this turn, no matter if Templars declare or not. I'd probably even do it in peacetime because it's working an unimproved tile and will grow again soon.

No whipping of Cape Town unless it's absolutely desperate. City has no granary and an empty food box.

I moved Diana and Mariah south by the way.

If we are set on Golden Age, I'd trigger it now, just in case it factors into Templars' decision on whether to proceed with attack. Also, did we upgrade another spear this turn? And can we borrow some cash from Banana to upgrade one more? (Literally borrow for 1 turn, rather than offer a complicated trade.)

@Zevis - The upgrade isn't worth it I don't think. I'd like to buy ALL of their gold for a few turns to do upgrades, but that will slow down Feudalism. Sure 4 gold will let us upgrade another spear to a pike, but then we WON'T be able to upgrade our Mace next turn.

I don't think we want another pike. A mace next turn could be useful though.

                Right Soooo.

That leads to a question we may as well discuss now. What if Imperio moves their stack into our territory and declares war but doesn't promote their units? Hitting them next turn would deny us another cat and the mace upgrade, but guarantee good odds for most of our units. On the other hand they might move all the way next to our city without promoting their units, but I fear pressing our bet. Anyways, we'll see at the end of the turn, but it is something to start pondering.

I just took a look at the game, and we don't have a single modern unit in the south.

I think we should borrow cash from Banana this turn to upgrade a spear in the south (before we lose iron) and ask them to borrow cash next turn to upgrade an axe. And we have to whip the Mace, because 3 ancient units aren't going to be too helpful even against the forces Templars have shown us.

Golden Age now works, because the GA accelerates the next scientist too and still lets us bulb Philosophy while losing minimal time towards Nationalism (and actually gets to Gunpowder sooner.) It's a positive sum game, since the Golden Age helps to replace its own Great Person, during the timeframe of Operation Bloodbath.

@Zevis - Before Templars can hit us with their seven unit stack Pink Dot will have 1 mace, 1 axe, 2 spears, 1 archer, and 1 cat. It's also on a hill with 40% culture defense. Plus we'll be in position to whip at least one more unit and do at least one upgrade.

*I moved Britney Spears into Pink Dot after all, because of the slight chance Templars will send their three mounted units down to Something Fishy.

*I slaved Pink Dot, China Beach, and Green Acres. I read back through the above, and it seemed there were more voices in favor of whipping Pink than against.

*Sunrise, M_H, Regoarrarr, sooooo, and Dreylin are in favor of the Golden Age. T-Hawk and Ruff are at least neutral. I think this is a majority. However I won't trigger it for a few more hours in case someone has a crazy objection. As per Krill though I WILL trigger it before the clock gets down under 24 hours to go. And when I do trigger it I'll also assign the pair of specialists in Airship One.

*Once the Golden Age starts we'll need to discuss which religion (if any) we want to adopt, and what to do about civics.

Golden Age activated. Gold per turn is up to 125. Scientists assigned in A1.

Imperio retreats its stack into Chichen Itza. No declaration this turn at least.

Suggest changing Airstrip One to Monastery and Something Fishy to barracks.

                            I second sooooo's build suggestions.

Hey, if the Golden Age scared off Imperio, then that's even better for us than using Golden Age production to fight the war.

Also we need to put Airstrip One into max GPP configuration, which unfortunately does involve coming off a couple hills. Food shortage to do this is OK, it's only going to last for 7 turns. If any workers nearby can get a grassland irrigated, that would be welcome.

I would think that an attack would come after Easter as one of Imperio's key players is away until after the holiday.

Well now. We are ready but they obviously aren't. I see in the Imperio thread a suggestion to taunt them - I think that is totally ok as our diplomatic standing with them cannot get any lower.

However, is the balance of our game hurting because of all the war preparation that we are doing? Sure - it would appear that we have caused them to delay their declaration but it may be that they are just trying to bog us down in war preparation instead of getting on and winning this game.

                                Suggestions
                                • Cape and PD remain on military builds for at least the next few turns
                                • Balance of empire move to development focused builds (settlers, workers, libraries, etc)
                                • Keep talking to Templar about Drama
                                • Keep talking to PAL about philosophy
                                • deselect (click on tech bar on main screen) the tech so that we don't waste beakers into drama (they will get stored and we can put them into something else)
