  • I have to agree with sunrise. I'm fine with Imperio wasting hammers on caravels and culture buildings. If they build the sistine chapel then we'll capture it from them .

However, we should ask PAL what they are playing at, refusing our optics for engineering deal and instead trading both optics and music to Imperio for the same tech.

    • Caravels can pillage when at war with that nation, iirc.

      • @sunrise:

I would favour option 2 or 4, moving the HA/Pike onto the forest ASAP next turn and then assessing based on the Jericho Garrison.

We can 1t build a HA at Cape Town right? So maybe we should do so this turn.

I was fairly certain not, but am (always) prepared to be wrong. Even so, it'll take them 3-4turns min to build a Caravel and then - what 7+ turns to get it to any of our seafood resources (bar the Red Crabs). I'm not too worried.

I think it's pretty obvious what PAL is playing at. They want to keep our continent balanced and stalemated while they run away with the tech tree and the game. They already have Education, for chrissakes! They're thousands of beakers ahead of everybody else! They'll get farther ahead with Liberalism! They're a lock for the Magellan bonus! And there is no credible threat to attack them!

The only way PAL does not win this game is if our continent gangs up on them ASAP. Unfortunately Imperio and Templars are both too stubborn and uncommunicative to go for that. They have kingmade for PAL by attacking us.

            • I don't see us taking Jericho (unless Templars are complete idiots, actually, that could be a possibility) so I favour 2 or 4. I see this as giving Templar another thing to think about as well as providing good coverage for the middle. A pike / mace in a forest with HA in the background should split their efforts. At least make them keep some units tied up in Jericho.

              • Okay then, since there is no interest for option 1, we just need to decide whether to swap Cape Town to an HA this turn. Either way, next turn we'll try and take the forest next to Jericho (Templars should block us though) and then possibly move the 6-7 mounted units onto the cow tile.

                • My vote is for option 2. Number one is simply too risky, so I think that is out. As THawk points out above, PAL is laughing their way to a victory. We are at best playing for second place here. So... we may as well risk things a bit and push at Jericho in an attempt to screw over Templars. I am NOT at all convinced that they know what theyre doing. I think theres an excellent chance we can catch them off guard there, and maybe raze a city or panic them into a peace treaty.

If mh can get an estimate of Templars army, that would obviously be even better for this plan.

If they block us - won't that mean less units in Jericho?

Do we have any units that we can get promoted to sentry (Flanking I, Sentry) so that we can get a 2 tile visibility? Is it worth burning 2 promotions on such? Then we only need to park such a unit 2 tiles away from Jericho to see what is there.

Edit: another suggestion ... build a fighter or bomber and sent it out on a recon mission.

                    • They can still block us. They move into the forest THIS turn, we move onto the cow with our horses next turn, then they give up the forest next turn. That does however get the forest in our hands, assuming they don't have the units to cover the forest and the city.

If they block the forest we probably will have to sacrifice Charismatic to get visibility into the city.

                      • Turn 136

                        City report:
*Airstrip 1 - Monestary due in 2. I think the plan is a theater after that.
*Pink Dot - Mace due in five. I think the plan is a theater next here as well.
*China Beach - Forge completed. Spy due in 2. Does this need to change to a theater?.
*Cape Town - Elephant completed. Horse archer due in 1.
*Something Fishy - Cat completed. Barracks due in 2.
*Green Acres - Forge due in 3 turns.
*Mellow Yellow - Library due in 2 turns.
*Saxon the Beach - Moai due in 17 turns.
*Bluebell Woods - Forge due in 23 before chops.
*Red Herring - Work boat due in 1.

                        Worker report:
*2 workers finished the silk outside BlueBell and one moved to the grassland hill outside Saxon.
*Winston moved into the forest to road towards Cape Town.
*Worker outside Green Acres moved onto the desert hill to mine.
*Worker outside Pink roading the dye, done next turn.
*3 workers still in the desert, they will continue to tactically road as needed.

                        Domestic Military Report:
                        *Cape Town garrison - 9 strength-eight units, 4 horse archers, 2 pikes, 5 cats, 1 axe, 2 chariots, 4 archers.
*Pink Dot garrison - 3 maces, 2 pikes, 1 horse archer, 1 cat, 2 archers.
*Central garrison (units in open) - 1 HA, 1 mace, 1 pike.

                        Enemy Military Report:
                        *Cape Town opposing force - 6 strength-eight units, 6 longbows, 7 cats, 1 Pike.
*Pink Dot opposing force - 1 crossbow, 2 horse archers, 2 swords, 4 cats, 1 axe, 3 chariots, 1 spear. The crossbow, axe, one of the HAs, and one of the cats are still in Templar land.
*Central opposing force - all dead

                        Military Report:
*Notice Templars will average 1.3 units introduced into the southern theater each turn for the next 3. We're not building as quickly, so we need to pay close attention to keeping military superiority in the south. Templars are also finally building a road to our border. 2 turns from now, when we will have 2 cats, 4 maces, 2 pikes, and an HA in Pink will probably be the time to strike Templars stack if they continue to sit on the hill.

                        Questions and notes:
                        *Can I slave Pink Dot?
*Are we building theaters where we need to be?
*We get another great person next turn.

                          • As far as I can tell option 2 seems best. I'm quite sure caravels can't pillage: their only threat is sinking our galleys.

Oh, and either swap CT to a fighter or whip a bomber from Pink Dot for reconnaissance.
