      • Oh my...

Took a good look at the save last night. This is a conquest game requiring us to be in Democracy. We have a nice base of cities, mostly on 3 large islands (small continents).

We're at war with all but the Chinese, to whom we have a semi-shipchain. Why are we studying SPACE FLIGHT?? Are we trying to get Apollo just to reveal the map??

We are building either Freights or airports nearly everywhere. We're at 40-30-30, netting +623 GP/turn, techs each 4 turns, and some spotty celebrations.

        [ ]
WHY ARE THERE NO CAVALRY OR EXPLORERS IN THE BUILD LIST??
Hmm. This is set up as a scenario. Did that include an adjustment to the units in rules.txt? Is there anything else I should be aware of in that regard??
(Or do cavalry disappear when you get Partisans? I never have partisans it seems...)

        OK, [/ ]

There's gonna be some changes made...

First, let me say that this thread has been infected by unwanted links from waraxe, our latest settler. Every time I come to this page, I get diverted to daughter windows from sites NOT part of any Poly advertising campaign. These are NOT APPRECIATED.

          'Nuff said. /

Well, for the first time in about 1.5 months, a set of turns has been played in this game. We now boast a mighty armed forces. The Aztecs are toast, as would be many Romans were it not for dupllicitous back-door dealings by our Senate.

It's now 1858. obiwan, take the comm!

          • President Minnie Mouserabbit turnlog

It's a pivotal year, 1850, as President Minnie Mouserabbit ascends to power. Dusting off the logbooks in the seldom-used Oval Office, she sees a Democracy at was with all but one civ. World maps reveal the base locations of all civs, but much black remains.

Population = 22.45 MM spread across 39 cities. There's 734 GP in the treasury. We're studying Space Flight. Current build orders are for freights and airports nearly everywhere. At 40-30-30, we are learning a tech every 4 turns, with a tax revenue net of +623 GP/turn (certainly more, with all the freights we see).

But this game is about conquest, and the Mouserabbit is tired of playing the Celebration Game in all these successions. So...

University in Magic Kingdom is sold. Libraries are sold in 12 other towns, adding 1120 GP to the coffers. This is spent on Offshore Platforms in donald Duck, Thunder Mountain, and The Institute. Plus Barracks in 7 other cities. Plus the odd Temple or Market in smaller towns.

The einsteins are fired. Faders slide to 80-00-20. Out economy is now 1,711 GP, minus 227 upkeep, for a net of +1,484 per turn. Serious rushbuilding planned.

Noting that no other civ possess (or is studying) Rocketry, it is decided that a mobile air force, augmented by a ground force or armor (no Cavalry available!!!) and spies, all vets, shall be our calling card. (There is but one word on that card... BLITZKRIEG!

Build orders are changed to aircraft wherever we have airports (thankfully, there are upwards of a half-dozen), armor wherever we have barracks, and spies in low-production cities (of which we have many).

OK, enough of the 1850 changes. Let's press ENTER.

            1851

Roman armor kills our spy in the hinterlands.
            Unrest in EuroDisney.
Salt to Hangchow, 220GP, Gold to PiratesofCaribbean, 278GP.
City of Crete founded (renamed Pluto).
Fortressed troops prepare to depart peaceful Chinese lands on reversed shipchain.
Wandering Aztec galleon spotted and killed by our Destroyer.

            1852
Much rushing of units, barracks, etc.
            Romans land at Pluto.
WLTP celebrated in China Ferry, Peter Pan, Jungle Cruise, DisneyChina.
            Hut = 100GP.

            1853
Chinese discover secret of Mass Production.
            Indians learn Amphibious Warfare.
Fighter kills Roman tank near Pluto.
            Another 7 barracks come online.
Mighty Carrier sets forth with escorts. Ships and planes and spies, oh my...

            1854
Continuing our campaign to spend as much as we can every turn...
We spot a Greek ship near Mersey Ferry, an Indian cruiser near Kiplingville.
At Tintin, they LTP, but no longer at Peter Pan or Jungle Cruise.
Civil disorder in Penzance, Space Mountain.
Wine to Xochicalco, 67GP and info from our Spy.
Invasion force moves within range of Aztec homeland. Southern tine of our 2-pronged attack lands in open fortress.
Dovelike senators are rounded up and muted.

            1855
French have Mass Production, Romans have Amphibious Warfare.
WLTP in China Ferry and Peter Pan.
More barracks. More planes. More spies. More armor.
Hut = Fanatics (attached to Temple of Doom).
Aztecs kill cavalry (mis-click, missed fortress) and the transport he rode in on.
Gems delivered to Tintin City, 260GP.

Airforce of 3 bombers and several fighters empties Xochicalco. Ground forces combine with planes to prevent partisans. City nets us Adam Smith's and 342GP in plunder.
            Senate supports "peacekeeping" with Aztecs.
Spies roam the continent, reporting the defensive abilities of each and every city.
--City of Tula bribed for 260 - 64GP.
--Tenochtitlan falls to armored assault. 314 plunder, 5 partisans.
--Atzapotzalco revolts for 1360GP (315 plunder). 6 partisans appear.
--Calixtlahuaca sacked, netting 232GP and 5 more partisans.
            --Texcoco revolts for 1488GP - 207 plunder.
AZTEC civ destroyed. All partisans disappear. Our treasury is at 25GP.

            1856
President Mouserabbit despairs of finding pronounceable names for our new cities, decides to let it go for now...
New citizens swell our population to 26.10 MM.
French, Chinese, and Greeks all get Marines.
We land a force of armored tnaks and spies between rome and Antium. !st bomber assault takes out a defending armor. Spy reconnoiters, but...
Senators escape, sign ceasefire with Romans!
FYI, Rome defended by one fanatic behind city walls and contains the Statue Of The Lady.
Antium has a Fanatic and a Riflemen.
A number of Armors patrol the island.
Treasury swells. We start building again, and looking for something to kill.

            1857
            Drunken Gits, Flicka celebrate.
Panic in the streets of The Institute.
Chinese navy lurks near 3 of our port cities.
Romans land and fortify outside Thunder Mountain.
Our Carrier neads north, using planes as scouts to uncover several unmapped Roman cities.
Struggling to assemble an invasion force for distant Greek lands. Shipchains shifting to west and south.
PiratesoCaribbean designated as "homebase" for Greek assault.
Shiny new aircraft Carrier assembled hurriedly in Mersey Ferry.

            1858
Indians learn the secret of Labor Union (mech inf). They are lucky to be so distant.
Hut = adv tribe of Scrooge McDuck. (This has no specials and may be better disbanded for an Eng.)
Spy and 2 transports encounter new Greek island. Transports can't reach any cities, but Spy finds capital of Athens (defended by city walls, coastal fortress, 2 fanatics, 2 rifles, and a transport).
While he's in the neighborhood, spy steals Amphibious Warfare.
We bribe a Chinese cruiser that's been lurking in our home continent's SE bay.
Scout mission by fighter reveals Greek cruiser near Mersey Ferry. Bomber kills it dead.

            EPILOG
We now have 47 cities, 26.55 MM ppl. We also have Adam Smith and a lot of cities with long, funny, non-Disney names. (Of course, a lot of our present cities have non-Disney names as well. )

Biggest need right now is a shipchain to bring troops to Greek target area. Most "loose" transports are now headed in that direction, though some are being used to transfer spies and armors from our other 3 continents to the railroad leading to PiratesoCaribbean, which is where the new assualt will start from.

I left most of the Aztec forces in place, hoping we could get the Romans back into war mode and blitz them with an air assault from Tula and Xochicalco. So far, they won't budge.

I abandoned our presence on the Chinese continent.

The Indians (very strong) and the French (very weak) are just too distant for the present. It's important to note that the Indians have Mech Inf (and we don't). The also have 3 cities in the Top 5 (all Size 22+) and are studying Advanced Flight.

I've left some loose ends, so some organizing needs to be done. May the Force be with obiwan 18, my worthy successor.

(BTW, this should be Post #500 in this thread. Does that mean Poly blows up, or something? )

                          • President LF comes to power (after many talks between specialists about the capacity to punch holes of a number of inhabitants of our most southern cities).

LF wonders why our coneheads have gone on strike instead of researching Robotics, which is the most precious tech to acquire before putting on the heavy helmet. He decides that a high priority shall be given to getting that tech.

                            Main events:

1859: Space Flight discovered; ROBOTICS researched.

1861: ROBOTICS discovered; Labor Union researched. All cities with barracks switch to howies. Chinese SNEAK ATTACK = they will pay for that very soon.

1862: Attack of the Chinese main island prepared (mostly rushbuilding of howies and transports).

1863: Our mighty howies take Shanghai. The Romans SNEAK ATTACK (6 units lost)

1864: Shanghai in disorder = government collapses = many loud voices shout that LF should be sent to The Institute and write down at least 500 times "check F4 before hitting Enter".
But the Senate wisely decides that our armies need a leader and that LF is bound to retire within 2 years. He will be sent to The Institute in 1866, but he is asked to go on crushing our foes in the meantime.
As a consequence LF takes Rome and the Roman government escapes to Pompeii. LF also takes Antium .
                            LF takes Nanking and Chengdu
Some senators begin to talk about saying 'THANK You', but others say it's much too soon.

1865: Dansk Salami and Makrell are founded (just to show the Romans that if they destroy one of our smaller cities, we are able to build 2 on the same place immediately).
Canton, Tsingtao, Tientsin and Macao fall to our glorious howitzers

                            1866: 2 more Chinese cities
LF retires and take the first train to The Institute.

                            Notes:

The Chinese are now reduced to 3 cities. I didn't bribe the smaller one, because I dislike bribing cities.
The Roman main island seems to be covered with unwalled cities. Our bombers in Rome + a transport full of armors should be enough to take care of them.
I would advise to attack the Greeks soon, since they have SunTzu in Athens, and SunTzu is always good to have for a warmonger.

                            Special note to the archer:
                            I confess I didn't bother mining specials
