Ok, here´s a unit file with the outlined units. I have my doubts about outlining units. It can be useful in games but here? I haven´t seen much civ2 units with an outline except for the worms Tileset and the SDL client.

Alpha transparency: Making shadows
Well, it is official: Freeciv will also support PNG alpha-transparency.
This feature won't be in the upcoming 2.0 but it could be useful to get to know it. Apart from 0% and 100% transparency I really don't much about transparency either. So get some practice, here's a small test to see how it works. Here's a bigger example of how this would work with a background. I've drawn the shadows with black (R0G0B0 Opacity:127) and grey (R64G64B64 O:127)

More work in progress, the terrain specials. I found the bull in a scenario by Morten Blaabjerg but it's been tweaked quite a bit.

CapTVK: after some testing I see that the all-out outlining of all units isn't very good looking. What is needed is rather a slight increase of contrast on the edges of some of the units which blend into the underlying terrain a bit to much.We are the apt, you will be packaged.Comment

That's probably the issue with the modern army units. They stand out less with a green background. Outlining the bottem right side might help them stand out. I would like to wait with that for a moment though. The right basetile might make all the difference.
