  • I put the largest one on a size 1 city to test it:

    I think it looks good.

    • Smiley,

Here's a blank set of 96x72 tiles for the cities. Try to keep the top left corner open. That's were the flags will be shown.
Skeptics should forego any thought of convincing the unconvinced that we hold the torch of truth illuminating the darkness. A more modest, realistic, and achievable goal is to encourage the idea that one may be mistaken. Doubt is humbling and constructive; it leads to rational thought in weighing alternatives and fully reexamining options, and it opens unlimited vistas.

        • Here's a polynesian city set I've also been working on. Feedback is welcome:

Yes, it looks a bit weird with palmtrees on grassland, but hey...look at that tiki god!

Looks promissing. Would you mind doing them in the "head-on" style?

We are going for the "head-on" style for the others, so it would be nice to have the same perspective on all of them.

If you prefer isometric you can of course try to convince CapTVK to redo his in this style, although I don't think he's too keen on that

I'm fine with either style, what I care about is consistency in my tileset.

btw, are you familiar with the GPL license?

                  • Since units, resources and terrain are isometric, I feel that head-on cities look awkward, especially at the enlarged size.

Yes, I know of the GPL license.

Yeah, I can see that. Iso do look much more integrated. I guess one argument for the "head-on" style was that it made the cities stand out more and therefore became more visible against the bg. Hovever with the 96x48 tileset they are so much bigger that this probably isn't a big issue anymore.

                      CapTVK, what do you think?

                      • Also, please keep in mind to leave some space for the flag:

Partial overlap is not a problem, just as long as one see enough of the flag to easily identify it. The flag can also be slightly offset up and to the left if that is needed, but I would like to avoid moving it to far into the surrounding tiles.

Nice job on the Polynesian cities. Hoping to see what Smiley conjures up as well.

                          • Impressive designs designs Smiley! I can't wait to see the final results!

As for the city style ( isometric or head-on) my initial choice was based on Bebro's cities which were done in that style. So I planned do complete a set (4-7 cities, ancient, roman, european, industrial, asian, polynesian, alternative modern) in the headon style first.

Only after the head-on style is finished I was planning to take a look at isometric. Still, even I am caught by the isometeric bug as you can see from the first polynesian city design.. (so that's one down in isometric

So, If we can a make a full set of city styles, there really is no reason for not including isometric in the tileset as well. And seeing Smiley's designs I say: "go for it".

My main drive is making a consistent set. If we can do both I have no problem with that.

Well, the head-on set is almost finished (i will take a 2nd look at first citydesigns though) and I do have some ideas for isometric. I could finish the head-on set while Smiley' works at the isometric cities and help with the remaining the designs.

In the meantime I will try to complete the head-on set. I'll probably redo the modern city i did first and I'm still in need of an alternative modern city.

Smiley, you created some nice modern city designs in the past. Is it okay if i redo those in 96x72?

Ok, if you're willing to work on both styles thats cool

I can include both styles in the tileset and include instructions of how to change between them. Maybe there could be added an option in-game to change between them also, although I don't know how hard that is to addm and if it is desirable. I can talk to jdorje about it.
