  • yea! nice sceanrio- i am playing it for an hour or so yet. It is really fun!

But as you said in your readme it is really hard to defend your conquered citys with the small amount of defending units you have from the beginning on.

I am just wondering if the almoravids unit counts as a barbarian "host" unit? As my vet host unit doesn´t have a chance to kick this guy out of my city.

Congratulations on this fabulous work, Mr. Exile!

    • Yep - I am playing as the Germans, liberating as much gold via trade as I can.
In the name of god of course, yes that's it.

The evil Byzantines killed my great travel man.

      They will pay!

I am hoping there is some kind of tank at the end of the research tree!

          • 1. It's not a typo. really. honestly.

            2. Yes, the Almoravids and Almohades ARE host units. I had to make them very powerful in order to enable them to seize cities, as the AI isn't very discriminating about when to throw its units at cities.

            3. There is no tank at the end of the tech tree.

They are really powerful. The only way to conquer their cities (when they seize them) is bribing them (fortunately, it's quite cheap).

              • Look at the readme file. It's against the rules to bribe either the Almoravids or Almohades. If they take a city, you'll just have to build siege units to pound on them for awhile before you scoop them out. Bribing enemy host units makes the scen too easy.

Sh*t. I should have read it. I still don't have siege units anyway, so I suppose I'll have to wait

                  • I notice the AI takes a dim view of bribing too.

I subverted the Byzantine-captured Ravenna and the Greeks declared all out war on me!

Well! - If this fight was set some 880 years later, they would cower from my Stukas!

                    • stukas...

damn i didnt continue reading house rules as I thought there were just existing for MP. Damn! I liked bribing the Italian host unit for just 500

The barbarian host just went away from its own and commited suicide by trying to fight my men at arms (do you know he-man anyways...?)

Take that, you arrogant remnant of Roman glory!

                        This scen is superb fun!

                        PS
Do the hosts really need that 'F' for Frank, etc?
Is that unit terminology for events purposes?

                          • I played a couple of turns last night as the Germans. Im taking the long term approach as you suggested in the player notes and am slowly but surely building to a take over of Hungary as my first big event.

One comment on asthetics. maybe its because of my laptop but I felt the color of the German cities was too dark and belnded into the background too much.

                            Thats just mho.

                            • I was right, this is a classic. It's the most innovative MGE scenario in years; the concept of the all-powerful host unit and difficulty in building other military units utterly changes gameplay and gives a far greater sense of realism. Superb

                              • Indeed!

I found my hosts demanding double wages as they were required to run
around the map, dealing with one crisis, and then off to another as it developed!

                                PS
The attacks by the evil steppes warriors from over the Urals are truly intimidating as time progresses!

                                A truly great scenario.
