As such, perhaps you could try experimenting with more 'dirty' units? This would help capture the theme of decay and misery which was what the Dark Ages were all about (unless you favour the view of the increasingly popular(?) school of thought which argues that the Dark Ages weren't actually so bad)
mmm... interesting idea. We're actually into the early Medieval period and out of the Dark Ages during the course of this scenario, but I take you're point; they didn't wash too regularly This argument could equally be applied to soldiers in all periods of history I supose. The main problem is its a bit tricky with the standard civ2 pallette and much easier with ToT; with the latter you can apply a final coat of dirt colour as a blended layer...

I have actually tried to make the white horse trappers 'dirty/dusty' as you can see here with the second and third blokes out of this lot:

      Some things . . . . . .

Yeah, Case, they were dirty. This is a computer game. I will leave the grime and grit to the cinematography guys. They have more fun with it. I want brightness and color. Let us just imagine that the people in the scenario have just had their hauberks cleaned and pressed prior to their posing for the images.

Yes, I do have a splash, but it was thrown together just so there would be something there. If have what you think may be a good splash graphic, get in touch w/me via PM.

Yes, the Byzantines will be in the communist govt. If I didn't mention it before now, I've reset the cosmic principles so that the "distance" is 12. There WILL be plenty of corruption.

                Well . . . . .

I must be a gummi bear kinda guy then because it looks good to me.

The font looks like some sort of Gothic variation, which works well given the period.

I have some images that I'd like to see if you couldn't place in the black background.

Oh okay, the font is Gummi Bear style. Having worked with photoshop for so long I've seen the same font with several different names, so Gummi Bear Font is just as good a name as any other I suppose.

What ever images you want Exile, its your project afterall.

                    I like the Gothic lettering

Here's the great traveller, retouched Byzantine infantry, a taller BeBro static infantryman and an 'action pose' version of the same:

Mmm, you could do an in-game screen border with the cross and crescent motif made by Sarsstock I think....

                        Gummi Bears?
It's more like The Black Cauldron lettering, surely?
                        (j/k)

The lettering on Saarstock's title is just perfect.

                          Not vodka. It's gummi-berry wine.

Sarsstock, I like the idea you proposed via PM. Let's do that. I'll send you my email via a PM. When you get it done, send it along.

and thanks. My splash was just a temporary solution, had no idea what I was going to go with in the end.

Got it, Chris, and it works perfectly. Should be an email on your end sometime.

Gareth, that Great Traveller looks kinda like a court jester I saw that the file was labeled "Fop & . . ." This guy isn't a clown, he's a GREAT traveller. For some reason, I was thinking of someone a little more dignified, but . . . I'll use him.
