Greece would do wisely in retracting its statement that the suffering of Russia is in any way part of anything preplanned from our side. Perhaps it was the intention of Rome and Piercia all along, but we are nothing but victims in this. Rome has taken our second richest city, and instead of the aid we were promised we have now lost our freedom through treachery. We have whipped our population to a fraction of its former size to raise soldiers to repel the invasion, in which we would have succeeded had we not been betrayed. Such is the punishment for those who would think honorably of others. And I assure you, Russia has nothing left now but vengeance. We had no chance against Rome. Yet we fought valiantly regardless and would have repelled the first wave, but were betrayed politically.

We have suffered greatly! And we have lost so much! Nothing in this treachery has given anything good to Russia.

Our foolish leaders believed themselves wise to open a second front on Rome, and bringing a local power that would have interest in gains from warring against a regional competitor, into the fray. Especially since Sparta, Oldonia and Japan's promises were noble, but hollow, since neither had any way to bring soldiers to our aid since the Wyandot's refused them access and Korea sought to distract them from honorable actions. Russia realized, that we were despite all honorable nations' pledges, isolated and alone.
We knew Rome and Piercia had a non-aggression treaty, and our belief was that this was a treaty signed to ease tensions, meaning there existed tensions. Our merchant class sought to make use of this tension and offer the prize of service, for the reward of an alliance. We were given this, then betrayed and had it stolen from us. We foolishly gave the prize before receiving the reward, for we did not know that the word of a Piercian is nothing worth.

As we have stated, we will offer GreatPeople and Vouchers to any nation who makes war upon Piercia and Rome. We will offer Gold and Resources to any nation that will support our struggle for freedom. And when that day comes, that we are free to make our own declarations, we will make war upon our transgressors in such ways that will make the whole world recoil from the monster that has been created by the aggression and treachery committed against us. This I swear to you, for though we do not believe in honor anymore, we believe in vengeance, and that gives us a common cause.

      Hail Istvan Yadvigovich Rus,

I am very sorry for sending out a message that could be misunderstood even by the friends of Sparta.
I never wanted to claim that this current situation was pre-planned by the Russians.
What I tried to say that the Roman/Russian/Piercian peace has been pre-fabricated by the Piercians/Romans/Koreans. I'm not sure what role Korea played in this, but they were aware of this peace forger before it was actually done.

Apparently Piercia has contacted Rome and Korea before the plan was executed. Rome, because how could he otherwise know that he would succeed in signing peace with Rome before it actually happened, and Korea, because they were able to tell me.

Before Russian became a vassal of Piercia, and Piercia forged peace between Russia and Rome, Korea already told me that this would happen. All over the backs of Russia.

That's what I tried to say. I am sorry for not bringing this message clearly!

      • Rome: Dear dear, Perdiccas, your paranoia is getting to you. Maybe that brother of yours is going to murder you. I'd check your throne room for assassins if I were you.
Perdiccas read this message of Rome, and reacted angered and shocked:
"How does he dare to talk like that about my brother, the Great King Alcetas II of Sparta! Will this disrespect of Rome ever stop?" he said out loud.

But what choice do free nations have - become Sparta dogs, or fight.
"Sparta is a free nation as well. Sparta is allowed to close it's borders with Korea, if it wants to. Why is Rome saying these things? Does Rome claim that Sparta has not the authority to close it's borders with Korea?

And does he really not understand the reasons for Sparta to consider war against Korea? Would Rome not declare war on a former friend who betrayed and insulted them?" he continued while shaking his head.

          • Reply to the Emperor of Piercia:

You accuse me of rudeness? You who made a promise and then broke it the same day? You who took advantage of our suffering and our despair? You have the GALL to call us rude for being angry!? You speak of our obligation to you while you mock yours to us? And you have the nerve to invoke MY PEOPLE'S WELL BEING!? My people howl for blood! My people who have given their lives by the hundreds of thousands to arm and fight off our aggressors. And this sacrifice you answer by telling us to sit and wait patiently!?

You speak of negotiations of the past between us and Rome. There were none! Rome created a set of excuses and attacked us. There were no negotiations, no requests or demands, only an attack upon our people. And our people answered it by making the ultimate sacrifice, again and again, to raise armies, to fend off our attacker until a second front could be opened. And you promised that second front.

            You declared war on Rome!

And then when you had what you wanted, you show your snake face and retract that declaration the very same day. Truly you took a great risk in that. Our sole demand for our vassalization is your war on Rome, which is why we demanded you declare war before we would accept vassalage, so that the war would NOT end! And you betrayed us!

You speak of negotiations and war reparations, but discuss this with Rome not with us. Nothing they will willingly offer can be enough to make up for our suffering, this is why we needed a warrior king to lead the call to our aid. Instead we got a twofaced tyrant.

There is no opportunity in serving you, this has been made clear to us. And we do not fear your wrath or anger, for our people's suffering is great beyond measure, and there is none that you can inflict upon us that we fear. Burn our villages and raze our cities? Try. We will do it for you. We would rather make our lands a dead wasteland than give a single copper piece to you.

Make your "negotiations" with Rome. We can not reject anything the two of you agree upon. But we can set our hearts for revenge and we can make our preparations and when the time comes we will throw our people into the fire of war, and though we cannot win, we can bring our suffering to those who caused it, for the vast pains we have suffered is compounded by the shame you have brought upon us.

Send no messenger to our lands, lest you want them to return tongueless. For now every Rus and Slav will want to cut out a Piercians tongue to see if it is forked as the words it speak.

            • TO: King Perdiccas II of Sparta
FROM: Sejong of Goguryeo, Emperor of Korea

              Honorable Perdiccas,

There has never been a better friend to Korea than Sparta.

Despite this we are wholly dismayed by your recent accusations, and the quick escalation of your treatment of my people and court. You asked us to close borders with Rome, and you threatened that if we did not you would close your borders with us. You never said anything about war. Now you talk of war.

You cite the release of our documents, documents in which I ask, nay DEMAND, that you show a single statement where we ever called Greece a warmonger! For there is not a single word of that in any of our proposals or our missives. In fact I have always spoken highly of you, all I am guilty of ever saying about Greece is that you are powerful and mighty. And these statements are true.

Oh how you have fallen, and how quickly. If the defense of small nations, if the independence of small nations to bigger ones is your true goal in this world I pray that you look in the mirror; for now Greece herself bullies a friend of hers, a great ally. I will be friends with Greece, but we shall never be her dog. Just as we shall never be a dog of Rome, or of any other hegemon on this planet. Without our independence, and freedom of thought we are nothing. So your threats of war, while I know you can make good on them and rend us asunder, are no threat compared to that of servitude.

You have let this dust-up in the north, far from our peaceful shores effect our southern nations. This is foolishness Spartan! Utter foolishness! Where is your famous Greek logic? Korea is no ally to Rome, Korea has never openly supported Rome in any case what-so-ever. In fact it was Korea, that at the outset of this war called upon peace talks. It was Korea that asked the small independent states to unite so we do not suffer what Russia has suffered, it was Korea who lobbied the Wyandots to close their borders and stop this war.

And the Piercians are correct, they told Korea that Russia asked them for vassalage. And Korea felt that, in an effort to gain back their greatest friends the Spartans, if they told Perdiccas about the vassalage thath the war would be over and peace would again come to Sparta. That was our only hope, and blinded by rage, without reason, Sparta trodded along the path to war; not caring who they hurt in the process.

Tell me Perdiccas; is it really Korea that has failed Sparta, or is it the other way around?

And you invoke the name of the Great General Bae Hyeongyeong. The man who approached an entire Spartan army, naked and unarmed. Yet again, Korea stands practically naked and unarmed as a large Spartan army looms over them. Just as Bae Hyeonyeong bravely approached this army, with nothing but peaceful intentions, Korea shall bravely confront Sparta today, with nothing but peaceful intentions. Tell me Perdiccas, will you be like Lacadeamon and become friends with Bae (Korea), or will you kill him?

I would rather be a free man in my grave, than live on as a puppet, or a slave...

Thank you for your time, friend.

              - Sejong of Goguryeo, Supreme King of Silla, Warlord of Pyong'yang, Emperor of Korea

OOC: Why does Greece keep accusing me of plotting with Rome and Piercia? Nothing of the sort ever occured. Its okay that you do that, but what is your proof?

Please accept your messenger delivered back to you without his body. It seems his head is all that is left of him.

We have no way of inflicting the suffering you have caused us now, but if we ever in the future will, know that we will take it and make good upon it a thousand times. You show here that you could not defeat us as easily as you thought and sought to bully and threaten us into surrender. That in fact, it was your invasion army that was being destroyed, and the Piercians betrayed us to save you, not as they claim, us. Know that we would gladly have suffered the loss of Novgorod itself to have continued our war with you. That your cruelty knows no bounds, we know, but our misery is the only thing we have and we will gladly share it with you.

And the Piercian believes he can bring peace. Celebrate your evil now. We will wait patiently for our opportunity to celebrate ours.

                • To: Tribune Hieronymus and the Senate of Rome

                  I hail you senators,

I have decided to answer publically to the following message you have sent me privatly, which was appreciated :

                  Emperor Asiz,

We would appreciate some discussion as to our relationship in these heady days.

As you know we had a signed non-aggresion and defence pack; this does leave some here troubled by your declaration of war! Also, as you know you stated very recently "You can count on non-agression of course. I do have no ties of any kind to the russian merchands, treat them as you want to."

We have long trusted you, and are sure that these apparent contraditions can be explained as part of a wider strategy, and humanitarian concern for the Rus. Nevertheless some communication would be appreciated.

Though it seems, given the Rus attitude, that we will be brothers in a war none of us want soon when a new Russian leadership takes control.

                  Tribune Hieronymus.

(If you prefer I could post this in public, but I would have thought private diplomacy might be best)
This makes clear that I had no ties to Russia, nor any intention to interfere before I recieved their offer of vassalage. They came as defenseless people to ask assistance of an Empire they knew almost nothing about, ready to give their sovereignity away for saving the lives of their families and their dignity. It was this act of great humility that impressed me alot. This is why I accepted to turn on you and the words of mine.

They are currently going through times of high political instability, not to say civil war. I hope you won't judge all of their people on the acts of some hot-tempered weapon-wielders. I am confident that reason will come to them in time if you are willing to cooperate.

I won't be dishonest with you. If you refuse to repair the damage done to my vassal, I will take military action against you for I would be considering that you violate our non-agression pact and offend my vassal.

Things are happening at a very fast pace at the moment, and I hope all of us can keep a cool head.

                  • @ Old Marco,
You have always been a good friend to Japan and have always been fair to us. We will honor your son as we honor you and in your honor we will Name one of the new cities we will build after you.

                    @ Russia,
Stop trying to give what you do not have. Why do you not take this time to dress your wounds and rebuild anything you have lost? There will be a time when you will get your vengeance on Rome but now is not that time. For now learn what you can for the Honorable Piercians who know much and can teach you a great deal. If Japan had the chance to learn from someone as wise as Piercia or more preferably Portugal we would do so without a second thought (though we will not become vassals of any nation). Stop being fools and trying to have others kill the very people who have saved you and happy you are Piercian vassals and not Roman slaves.

                    @ Sparta,

We have never once done anything against nor have we ever said anything bad about you. We have always respected you and still do but we cannot sit silent. Do you not see how unwise it is to have a war on 3 different fronts? I understand your anger but please listen to logic and reason not strange improvable theories. And do not listen to a Russian nation who is bent on killing themselves and everyone around them. If anything all you are doing is playing into the hands of the Romans. They are making you so paranoid that you are distancing yourself from your friends. Little by little they are changing you into the very thing you say they are, warmongers with no friends. Is this what you want? Is this what the Great Alcetas would have wanted? You may be angry at what I have just said but in you listen to logic and reason you will realize what I say is true.

                    @ Rome,

We will meet on the field of battle but it will be on a place where only you and me will be affected. We will prove ourselves against your army but for now we will leave you alone to deal with other more pressing problems.

                    @ Piercia,
Well we have no problems with you. We do wish you luck with the burden you now carry.

Your accusations are reaching very far, but I have always been in good terms with your regretted brother, so I can forgive your hasty conclusions and give you an explanation. Your brother was a man who I respected deeply, and the news of his death truely made my soul suffer.

The russian message has reached us some time before I officially announced my decision, but this has only been enough time for me to inform the Korean court about it, seeking advice of Aun'El Sa'Ly Lon'Don, the Oratress of Storms, currently on a diplomatic mission in Seoul. As a high-ranked member of the Aun, she is allowed to seek advice of a foreign ruler, which may be the reason for the Emperor Seijong having been aware of my intentions before I made them public.

You can ask the Russians about when their message arrived at my palace, and you will see that this could not be part of a plan. In fact, I was planning on evading deeper involvement in the Romano-Russian war, which the Senate of Rome can confirm.

As you said, I accepted your brother's offer to send defensive units to the eastern border of the Piercian Empire. This preventive mesure was because of the relations with Tribune Hieronymus always having been and (obviously) still being difficult. This the Tribune can confirm as well as your scribes can.

Your latest decisions regarding your Korean friends, and I insist since this is still what they call you, make me wonder about how you can be of the same blood as your brother. Contact hasn't been made a long time ago with Korea, but I already have a good opinion about them. I will now reapeat in public the favor I have been asking you for in a private letter : please don't you reject all ties you have with your oldest friends, and most of all, please don't you bring even more war upon this continent.

Emperor Aun'O Asiz Asizia of the Piercian Empire

                      Emperor Aun'O Asiz Asizia,

Please explain to me how it is possible that you were able to tell Korea in advance that you would make peace between Rome and Russia while you had no time to inform Russia about it.

How was it possible that you knew in advance that Rome would accept peace while Russia wasn't even your vassal yet? And how could you inform Korea about that?

Explain me, Aun'O ASiz Asizia, and we will be friend.
If you can't explain it to me and you are willing to apologize for your misbehavior, we will be friends as well.

But if you continue to lie about this, we will be enemies.

The Senate thanks you for your message, we are happy to talk in public since we have nothing to hide.

                        A few points:

                        1. Let us not get carried away with Rus rhetoric. There was no threat to their familes and homes - I had already declared a cessation to hostilities. The only Rus homes under threat are the ones the Rus soliders are burning themselves at this very minute. The only threat now to them is from the Rus own declaration of endless vengence.

                        2. As we have consistently said we welcome your intervention. You are our friends. We accepted the cease-fire you proposed immediately.

                        3. We hope that you are right that the Rus will stop behaving as barbarians and learn civility, particularly to you their saviour and master. But I hope you can understand that while the only word from them is endless vengence and death to both of us, it is hard for diplomacy to flourish.

We wait for cooler heads in Russia, but sadly we have little confidence.

                        • [response to Korean post in org thread]

                          Sejong,

Eventhough you haven't given any proof that you weren't involved in planning of the vassal-peace forgery (you only prove that you informed me only 1 hour before the deal was executed), your attempts to heal relations between us look honest. I will there fore accept your explanation.

That doesn't change the fact that Piercia had the intention to forge the peace between Russia and Rome in advance, and was even sure that Rome would accept it, without consulting Russia about it. But that's not Korea's responsibility.

Further: the fact that you formed an alliance with 3 other nations, or at least tried to, to form a front against 'big nations' like Rome, Sparta and Portugal really angered me.
You never told me about it.
You created an alliance, or whatever it is named, behind my back, as some form of security against me. That's not what I consider to be good friends.

I will refrain from declaring war on you.
We are long term friends, but for now our borders stay closed.

I did never order you like a dog to do what I want.
I asked all nations in the world (not just Korea!) to close their borders with Rome, because of Roman aggression.
And I said that Sparta will not trade with those who trade with Rome.

Are we not allowed to ask our friends to stop trading with our enemies? Not even for our own benefit, but the benefit of the Russians?
And is it not up to Sparta to close borders with those who ignore Sparta's wartime request?

                          I did not ask much.
I did not ask you to declare war on Rome
I did not ask you to send armies
I did not as you or money or technologies
I did not ask you to spy on Rome
All I asked was to stop trading with Rome. In fact you could remain neutral.

Now it is like 2 very good friends are walking through the woods, then suddenly 1 of the friends is being attacked by a robber. While the first friend and the robber fight for the lives, the friend says: "I'm staying out of this".

I hope that you can imagine how such an attitude angered me.
That's not about being paranoid, don't believe those Roman lies.

This is about a friend who asked a little bit of help but got a 'No to everything' reaction.
I am willing to restore our relations to what they were during the reign of my brother Alcetas II, but I do require you to admit that you have done wrong, and to give that little bit of help I asked.

You are free to remain neutral, just close your borders and treat me as your friend, not as your bodyguard, who should be ready to defend you, but can't accept any help back.

                              • With all the problems of the world, the former Emperor Itoku failed to see the growing problems in all the cities of Japan. All three of Japan’s only cities where over crowded and the citizens where angry with the lack of expansion so many refused to work and protested in the streets. So Naruto did what any good Emperor would do. He ordered settlers to be gathered from every city. The plan was to build three new cities, the first is going to the center of Japan were it would become the new capital of Japan, while another traveled south to finish settling the rest of Japan, and the last was going to Choji island to the south. For now Japan was going back to it’s peaceful self …for the moment at least.
