I realise that but sadly that message came to Rome after we had accepted the cease-fire. Out of the blue we get a cease-fire request, before we even knew we were at war.

I'm sorry that your diplomacy was bulged, but you have tricked two nations into peace. We accepted the cease-fire before we even got this message - why wouldnt' we you were our sworn allies - and the Rus it seems hate you and have vowed to burn your capital down for tricking them into peace.

Its a mess, we need to talk sensibly.

Not to interfere too much but, in that statement you only stated that you will not participate in an embargo if the Romans gave back the city, you said nothing of going to war.

"Sire, it's becoming a mess!" the bald scribe said while entering the throne room.
"Rome and Piercia are angered at each other. Russia hates Piercia, while they are their vassals! Some nations do backup the Piercian-deal, others don't. It seems like this so called peace deal is a new cause for new conflicts!"

Perdiccas shaked his head. "That's exactly what I feared. When every nation comes with a self-made solution for this conflict, there will be many solutions but none of them will work. What's up with this pride of all those nations? Do they want to earn honour by trying to forge peace?

Why did they not just follow our lead in this, close their borders and build up pressure on Rome in a peaceful way. An economic embargo would've been effective if all would've joined. But no, some think they are better then the rest and try to create their own peace deal.

And now here we are! Things are becoming more and more complicated. Even the enemies of the Tyrant can't cling together anymore. Scribe: Send out a last cry out to the world to unite against this criminal act of Rome!"

To all nations on Earth:

Once again I call upon you to solve this issue together!
If we all try our individual plans, nothing will work.
Will you stop your pride and follow Sparta in their attempts to end the evil of Rome?

Sparta has fore warned the earth for many years!
We warned about future aggression of Rome, but you were all deaf for it.

All we ask you is to close your borders with Rome and stop trading to them.
This is a violent less way and I firmly believe that Rome will return to Russia what it has stolen from Russia, and pay for the damages it has inflicted to it's neighbours.

Sparta is not seeking the destruction of Rome.
We seek a new and civilized leadership and peace for the Romans and it's neighbours.

Please stop being stubborn. Stop you personal plans for peace, for they are all failing.
Let's now work together on peace and security on our continent.
If closing your borders with Rome will cost you too much, contact me. Sparta is willing to compensate you. If you are no willing to sacrifice a bit for Russia, then Sparta will sacrifice for both it's own losses and your losses.

While having his morning breakfast Old Marco read the daily press. Suryavarman 1 had answered his curiosity letter from the past day. Marco was disappointed from Khmer explanation, seems Khmer is trying to excuse its many wonders projects via other big nations.

Still Marco was open minded he knew that there are much cultural differences between the two large continents. Also much more importing things were going on the bigger continent. War was a daily issue and the majority of nations had no time to divert their energies to any grand projects. Diplomacy was always on top of the agenda. Survival was on people’s minds, not building glamorous buildings.

Old Marco couldn’t believe that the new Khmerian King called his son Philip, when his name was Henry – named after Isabella’s grandfather. Marco didn’t felt like protesting, again Suryavarman 1 seemed like a very bsy man building his ever powerful empire.

Marco was tired, he called the Patriarch of the Jewish church to come and visit him from Vrata.

“Hear me old friend, I will be leaving soon for New Portugal, there with Isabella we will find some peace for ourselves far from politics and endless debates. You and the church are to take my place until Henry comes back from Khmer. Upon Henry’s return I want you to invite all friends from far away lands to celebrate him and his Portugal”

Every time we try to get a messenger to Marco, we just find a huge queue of other foreign envoys waiting (he is a popular man Marco, rightly for he is so wise) in a huge crowd with this Mailbox Fullus character refusing anyone entry. (We call you that out of respect for the past, and our sincere hope that you still are - few here can believe that you have actually betrayed all our written agreements, and presume that there must be some deeper wisdom at work.)

The Senate at Rome has carefully thought through your recent communications with us. Since you are our friend we wish to give you a full response. Since you chose to make public our last messege to you, we will make this public ourselves. Indeed, it is right that this negotiation is done in the face of all nations.

First, I think we need to be honest as what is really going on in this communication. Is the truth that you have simply decided to betray your treaties with Rome and invade? . The whole world has been admiring your new weaponry. Perhaps you have simply decided to try it out? If that is the case, then there is no point talking. This intevention into the Rus war would have been a clever pretext. (On the day military action was started, you told us that you had no care for the Rus and we could do as we wanted; days later you break your treaties with us and intervene on their side - a very clever strategy, although one which will lead nobody to trust you ever again). If that is the truth, lets admit it and get on with it. A war between us would be bloody and disasterous for both our nations. No doubt you have storied up some of your new weaponry in anticipation of your actions. I am sure that you will have some early success. But in the end? If you can go from sworn allies to at war at whim, how would we ever conclude a peace treaty with you? But in that case a war would condemn both our people to endless bloodshed, from which neither of us would emerge. Don't choose that future for countless generations of yet unborn Piercians and Romans.

If not, if you actually want to talk about the Russian situation, then lets continue.

There is one major impediment in the way of our negotiations. As the whole world knows, the Rus hate you and hate me. They have sworn endless vengence upon me and you. Whatever we might conclude between us as civilisaed nations, we all know that the Rus will not abide by it. Even if now you force them to say that they will and they love Rome, the whole world knows it is not true and that they will plot our destruction for ever. Yours too it seems. A shame they hate their saviour so much - but even Sparta admits that they hate you. So, how can we go forward? There is much of substance we need to discuss. A peace plan was proposed by our mutual friend wise king marco, which had much to recommend itself. As you know we had set out publicly before military action what our grievances where. Also the Rus seem to be publicly making their own demands 'serious unspecificed reparations' (sounds like they don't want peace!). Even your own words seem to have slipped as the Japenese have pointed out. So there is much to discuss.

However, as we say, we are not sure of the point since nobody can have any confidence that the Rus will be bound by any agreements. Perhaps if you can address this - what guarentees can you give that the Rus will abide long-term by any deal which you and I strike? Then we can get down to business. Or, perhaps, you are simply are wanting a justification to cover your shame at breaking swore treaties and want war? We really hope not, and will continue to discuss in good faith.

Great Emperor, we know that your intevention was out of humanitarian concern. But Rus have undermined all your attempts. Don't condemn your people to endless war because of the Rus' arrogance. Its not worth it. You have tried, everyone praises your quick thinking and desire for peace, but the Rus have betrayed you. Retire gracefully from this affair with the praise and honour of the world as a true peacemaker.

The Roman people are pleased to have heard of your concerns about a university (whatever one of those is). We did not reply immediately for we believed that you did nto welcome messages from POrtugal and Rome because of your astrologiers assigning us numbers 2 and 3. However, Marco has told us that you have actually corresponded with him. So we thought we would try.

We can confirm that even once we learn what a universikty sankori is, we won't build it!

"Any news from Piercia?" Perdiccas asked

"No sire, as far as we know Rome is currently much effort in their attempts to let the Piercians break their promise to the Russians." the young scribe answered.

"Rome asks Piercia to break their vow to the Russians that they would attack Rome if Rome would not return New Mediolanum to the Russians?" Perdiccas asked shocked

"Yes, they do sire...."

"These Romans have no honour! Do they really expect the Piercians to let down the Russians, their vassals, and break their words? These times are troublesome! I hope that there's enough dignity in Piercia to refuse this!"

"Tribune, what do you think will happen", asked his secretary as they walked back from the Senate.

"I genuinely don't know" replied Tribune Hieronymus. "Maybe the Piercians want war, if so, what can we do?". They walked on "but if not, its just a mess. They have given their word to the Rus, but the Rus still hate them and have no intention of abiding by anything the Piericians agree.

"But hadn't they given their word to us as allies". The tribune and secretary laugh "well yes that is true as well"

"The piercians seem to be in a mess" says the secretary. "well, perhaps" replied the tribune "although we still trust that they will try to find a way which avoids war".

Emperor Naruto paid close attention to what the Piercians would do. Would they be willing to go to war against the ever devious and unyielding Romans or would they betray those they have sworn to protect just to save themselves? Neither option will lead to a good answer for all and either way it would be put Piercia seemed to be getting dragged into a war. The only question would be whom they will choose to fight, Rome or Russia. Japan does not envy the Piercians who have taken a huge burden out of compaction and are now stuck with the only option given to them by both parties…war.

"between us and the Rus - it seems like it is. Whatever is done now, the Rus have pledged endless war. Which is why its impossible to give strength to them that in a few years will be used to kill Romans"

"But between other nations?"

"No, there is no need. We have always had treaties of peace with all our neighbours other than the Rus who would never sign one, despite our asking. That can continue. And whatever the Rus say, the only people their hordes can attack is us. So no, the rest of the world can have peace.

I am concerned that the message to you earlier from the Senate at Rome may have seem harsh. These are heady days for us all, and sometimes strong words are spoken.

I wanted to make clear to you that, while we have concerns about our ability to rely on your word as binding on the Rus, we genuinely do want to discuss in good faith.

From a Roman point of view everything would be on the table. We trust that others will come similarly open. I would propose that this should be a congress of northern-eastern states - since these are issues which affect us - the Portuguese (perhaps wise old King Marco could host it?), the Wyandot, ourselves and you (together with your vassel the Rus if you wish). I am sure that together, with creativity and flexibilty, we can sort out the difficulties of our region.

Wise Marco a letter has come from the Romans. They ask if you could mediate the peace talks between them and Emperor Asiz.

What an honor Marco though, my last opportunity to give something to this world before I leave.

Tell the Romans that I am honored to help both sides resolve their differences.

Send Emperor Asiz a letter offering our help in this matter; we do not have much time. If they agree with me as the mediater in this peace talks, I will need from both sides short and to the point statements, nothing fancy. Only after they underline their demands we can start negotiating.

Hurry boy deliver the message to both countries, in 7 periods WAR is said to resume if we do not act quickly.
