  • To the Khmer,

Thanks for informing us about the lands west of Sparta.
One of our caravels is already heading into that direction and will soon arrive there. Maybe you are willing to exchange maps so that we can learn from each others explorations.

We are not sure yet if we are willing to settle new lands.
We leave that decision to our future king. Our current King, Perdiccas is dying and unable to lead our nation as we speak.

    The Scribes of Sparta

    • Tyrimmas wept when his father died.
For weeks Perdiccas hadn't said a word.
Tyrimmas wished that he could've spoken with his father about the current circumstances.
He needed the wisdom of his father.
      But now he was gone.

For days Tyrimmas had hope that his father would have a clear moment before he would pass away. But that moment never appeared.

"Mylord, your father has died. As the true son of your father you should succeed him." the chief scribe whispered. "We are in difficult circumstances, I am sorry for talking with you about this thing just after you father died, but we need a new King!"

"Archelaus claimed kingship. He will kill me if I'll be king when he returns. And isn't he looking for Aeropus? Aeropus is the true heir of Alexander and Alcetas!" Tyrimmas said.

"Archelaus may be older then you, but he's nothing but a bastard..." the scribe tried....

"You're talking about your possible King..!" Tyrimmas said.

"You are honourable for defending and protecting him, mylord, but Sparta needs a wise king. A true son of his father. And since I have lost all hope to see Aeropus back here in Sparta, my hopes are on you!"

"I thought Aeropus was sighted by the Mayas in Oaxaca."

"Yes, mylord. One of our scribes is heading towards that place. But I fear that Archelaus may find Aeropus first."

"Why do you fear Archelaus?" Tyrimmas asked.

"You know about Philip, your uncle?" the chief whispered. "We fear he has been murdered by a servant of your half-brother"

"Don't believe those lies! My brother may be a bastard according to your standards, but he has the honour and the nobility of our father! Don't you speak evil about him. One day he will return with my cousin Aeropus, and then Aeropus will lead us. Me and my brother will serve Aeropus to a bright future of Sparta!"

"But what will happen in between?" the chief scribe asked.

"I will rule Sparta till they return."

"Yes mylord!" the chief said with a sight of relief.
"We will crown you king immediately!"

"NO. I will rule Sparta as a Prince!"

      • [ooc: I'm glad to know that there's at least one civ (Rome) spelling my posts and reading everything ]

Archelaus approached the city of Oaxaca after a long journey.
He had not rested much. He looked like a beggar but there was much strength in his eyes.
Local farmers had told him about the "Spartan prince that was living in Oaxaca." and gave him directions.

Sometimes he felt like someone was hunting him.
When he looked back he saw another horseman on a safe distance. "Must be one of the scribes, looking for Aeropus"

Since he knew that he was not alone he rested even less. He had barely slept for days.
"There it is! Oaxaca! Make sure you are ready to go Aeropus, because we have little time" Archelaus smiled.

The fully armed Spartan prince that entered the small town of Oaxaca got a lot of attention from the citizen.
He stopped at the central square where thousands of Mayans were buying goods and selling stuff.

"Citizen of Oaxaca, I am looking for my cousin, Aeropus of Sparta, tell me, where is he?" he said with a heavy voice.
"He's coming for our prince" the people whispered to each other.
Some walked to the big horse and gave directions to Archelaus. Then suddenly another horseman entered the great square. "one of the scribes" Archelaus thought.

Immediately he turned his horse into the directions he had received and galloped away immediately, crushing a few locals with his horse. People cried.
The other horseman immediately followed him. People escaped the square, within a few seconds it was totally deserted.

"Archelaus, I have a message for you" the scribe screamed.
Archelaus didn't even hesitate half a second but continued into the direction of Aeropus.

Aeropus was outside the house where he was recovering his wounds. Archelaus immediately recognized him. "Cousin!" he yelled! "It's me, Archelaus, son of Perdiccas!"

Aeropus turned his head with a surprised look. "Is that you Archelaus! Did my father send you?" he asked.
"Come have dinner with me" he continued.

"We have no time Aeropus! A murderer is coming your way. It's one of the scribes. They have murdered your father and seek to rule Sparta themselves. They are murdering all heirs of Alexander! come with me!" Archelaus said.

"My father.... dead?" Aeropus said. "No...! That's not possible!"
Archelaus picked Aeropus from the ground and placed him in front of him on his horse. With heigh speed it galloped away.

"Aeropus! Don't listen to him!" the scribe screamed with tears in his eyes! but Aeropus didn't hear him.
The scribe immediately went after them.
Archelaus lead his horse around a corner and made it stop. He immediately jumped to the ground and positioned himself just around that corner.

"Aeropus" the scribe screamed when he came around the corner. Archelaus immediately jumped forward and threw his spear into his heart.
"Aeropus don't......" the scribe said while trying to get some breath. "Don't....."
Aeropus was shocked. Within a few minutes his entire life had chanced.

"What did you do to my father?" Aeropus asked when kneeling down next to the scribe. "Why did you kill him?"
        "Your father....."

"MURDERER!" Archelaus screamed while he pulled the spear from the dying scribes body and smashed his head with it. "Murderer of kings! May the gods punish you for ALL ETERNITY!"

"Is he really dead?" Aeropus asked. "My father......"
Many Mayans gathered around the 3 Spartans. Many were angered. Some citizen had died by these foreigners.

"Tell him to leave our city, Prince" they addressed Aeropus.
"I'll tell you more later, but now we must go first. Sparta needs a new King!" Archelaus insisted.

"King of Sparta......." Aeropus whispered. "I am ready for that!"
Aeropus besieged the horse of the scribe.
Both princes left the city of Oaxaca.
"I will be King in the spirit of my father! I will honour him! And I will honour you, Archelaus, for coming all the way from Sparta to get me! Thanks for being loyal to me and not trying to grab the throne yourself!"

"I am loyal to you, mylord, and I will serve you" Archelaus said.

"What has happened since I left?" Aeropus asked.
"A lot....." Archelaus answered. "First there is a war with Rome.... and you should know that Perdiccas, my father...."

Archelaus told all about Spartans recent history to Aeropus while he looked for a perfect place to.... rest....

        • Ieyasu sat in his war room waiting to hear any news
that was going on. As he studied the map his top
          Admiral walked in.

“My Lord,” said the Admiral, “we have deployed two of
our Tiger war ships and they will each guard the only
entrances to Ansuji. I have ordered another four to five
ships be built and sent just incase someone bought a
          ship from Portugal.”

Ieyasu looked at the map then back at the Admiral. “We
should not have to be building up for war right now. We
should be trying to build up the new cities we have. If
those damn Khmer would have just kept to themselves
then the world would not be fighting for a piece of the
New World and if they would have kept their policies to
themselves instead of pushing them on to others we
could have finished settling all of our lands in peace. It
is because of them that the world in now at war over
land and it is because of them that we will be forced to
go to war against any who try to invade our unsettled
          lands.”

“This is all true my lord but there is nothing we can do,”
said the Admiral. “They have blinded all the other
nations into fighting each other while they sit back and
continue to grow stronger. When will nations realize
that Portugal is not the problem? They only seek to
settle in a new land because the old Romans took the
land which was theirs leaving them with nothing.”

“That is not our problem right now,” sail Ieyasu. “Right
now we must try and defend what is ours. I wish I could
help Portugal but I cannot put Portugal ahead of Japan.
We must concentrate on finishing our expansion into
          our unsettled lands.”

“Sir,” said the Admiral, “ may I suggest taking the city of
Gateway from the weakened Oldonians? With that city
under our control not only would we be able to finish
settling the land between Alcetas and Gateway but also
we would have control over the northern passage and
part of the southern, which means we would only have
to guard a few entrances to the Sea of Japan.”

Ieyasu thought about it for a minute… “No,” he said. “I
will not sink to the same level as the Romans and attack
a weakened nation. That is dishonorable and it is not
our way. We will send a settler to settle next to
Gateway but we will not go to war over one city and
especially against a leaderless nation. Beside the
settler I sent to Ansuji will be their soon and as long as
our navy holds strong we will be able to fully settle
Ansuji by the time anyone can get past our fleet.”

The Admiral bowed and left the room leaving Ieyasu to
continue looking over the map planning his next move.

          • To: King Henry of Portugal
From: King Voltan of the Maya
CC: All nations Maya knows of

While it is not my style to engage in back and forth bickering about who is right and who is wrong, I will address your points so the world will know our position. After this, we are done discussing this with you.

First off, your boat that was sunk. It has come to my attention that our ship was severely damaged after that battle, which brings into question your claims that your ship was unarmed. In addition, no women or children were seen swimming to shore, which brings into question if there were even settlers on that ship. No military awaited your ship from the shore either. Were you planning on landing two settler parties into the middle of the jungle undefended? Of course it would make sense for you to CLAIM it held two settler parties as this would bring the most international attention, as well as allow you a very hefty reparations claim. My official stance based on what I know is that your ship did not have ANY settlers on it.

Now to address specific points you have made...

Portugal has several times stated openly that everyone is welcomed to New Portugal.
Welcome to New Portugal, or welcome to settle New Portugal? My explorers are currently mapping the landmass you call New Portugal and it is obvious you are jumping on the best locations with no consideration about where others could place cities. I plan on releasing this map to all of Terra once it is complete.

About our mediation, unlike Maya witch have been quiet and only drooling for others lands, we have worked hard to put an end to the Piercian Roman crisis.
The Maya give land to those less fortunate, and not a barren tundra either. What other nations lands do we seek?

Your claim that you work hard to end the crisis in your region is a sham. If Portugal had REALLY cared about stability in the region they would have done more from the start back when Russia settled your tundra. Instead you allowed Rome to use you as an excuse to beat up a weaker nation, which is how this entire ordeal started.

Are you trying to use what you own Portugal already and have cancelled to make peace?
I thought we had made this clear the first time. We will honor our past deals with you to the best of our ability out of a moral obligation, and to show Terra that we can be trusted in this regard. It has nothing to do with trying to buy peace.

I ask Sparta or Khmer to intervene and decide what they feel is fair Maya to pay to restore the harm you have inflicted on Portugal.
Agreement can only be reached when a fair nation like Sparta or Khmer decides what reparations Maya need to pay to fix their settler killings, burning of a ship and inflicting unhappiness events on all of Portugal due to stopping the supply of Ivory. Plus the completion of the deal which was promised by Maya
There will be no reparations, and any mediation in this matter will be conducted by a nation of OUR choosing. To date, Khmer's suggestion of a Trilateral New World Management Committee sounds good. As stated before we will honor all past deals when we can.

I still await you to publicly state if we have stolen any nation's land or hurt any nation in some way? I will keep on asking you this, just to show that Maya have no grounds and evidence for what you blame Portugal.
You hurt Russia by not stepping in when Rome attacked them over a simple misunderstanding generated in your lands. But this is not our reason for continuing the war.

We are at war because Portagul, one of the most advanced, richest, and powerful civilizations on Terra seeks to keep the New World for itself. You feel justified in doing this, simply because you have never started a war.

You have told other nations that your expansion into this land is minimal for economic reasons... lie.

You apparently offered some of the land to Russia. This is an empty offer considering Russia does not have the means to get there.

We war with you because of your close ties to the bully nation Rome. We war with you because you are attempting to take the entire landmass for yourselfs through deceit. We war with you to negate the advantage you have in settling the New World by means of your carrick ships. We war with you so that ourselves and others may have a piece of the pie.

We do not have to justify our war to any nation however. Our hope is that nations will justify our war to themselves.

Maya empty talks as usual, the one bickering is you. Everything we have said so far has been supported with evidence and action. Our deeds are supported with our actions and public posts.

First off, your boat that was sunk. It has come to my attention that our ship was severely damaged after that battle, which brings into question your claims that your ship was unarmed. The facts are facts, but you go ahead twist it and make it sound better

Welcome to New Portugal, or welcome to settle New Portugal? My explorers are currently mapping the landmass you call New Portugal and it is obvious you are jumping on the best locations with no consideration about where others could place cities. I plan on releasing this map to all of Terra once it is complete.

I see Maya lack any intellect, so I will repeat myself I have clearly said that anyone is free to settle here, feel free to go back and read our stories about New Portugal. If you so much trust Khmer ask them yoursef, we have been discussing it with them. But of course you will twist it, sadly that what your civilization is good for.

The Maya give land to those less fortunate, and not a barren tundra either. What other nations lands do we seek?

Maya wears many faces lately indeed. Well what other nations lands do Portugal seek, New Portugal is empty and no ones land.

Again you fail to answer my question, did you ask Piercia what they think about us mediating their crisis? Maya maybe you need to go back and read Russia’s letters towards us, when done answer me does it sounds that the Russians have any problems with us or are they unhappy by us in anyway?

I thought we had made this clear the first time. We will honor our past deals with you to the best of our ability out of a moral obligation, and to show Terra that we can be trusted in this regard. It has nothing to do with trying to buy peace.

How can you talk about moral obligations when you broke your word and declared a war of aggression and threats. You talk about trust, what nation can be trusted when they give and break their word, but you go ahead and believe that anyone will trust you anymore

There will be no reparations, and any mediation in this matter will be conducted by a nation of OUR choosing. To date, Khmer's suggestion of a Trilateral New World Management Committee sounds good. As stated before we will honor all past deals when we can.

There will be only peace when you pay for what you have destroyed and killed. There can never be a Trilateral New World Management Committee with Maya; the Committee was discussed between Khmer and Portugal. An aggressive and warlike nation like yours can have no part in a peaceful land distribution

I am starting to like you Voltan even more, when has Portugal stated that we will keep New Portugal for ourselves? The Management Committee was a mutual idea that we started working with Khmer. Many times we have stated that everyone can come and expand on New Portugal. But please do continue to repeat the same thing over and over. Yes we do not start wars, but we know how to defend ourselves

You have told other nations that your expansion into this land is minimal for economic reasons... lie.

Again interesting and an entertaining lie

You apparently offered some of the land to Russia. This is an empty offer considering Russia does not have the means to get there.

Russia needs to answer us, we have offered them assistance, they have never answered our public letter. Also of course as with everything we do we have evidence to support the invitation to New Portugal

Propaganda, which seems to be only working in your cities. Maya has anyone except you come forward and shared any dissatisfaction about us being on New Portugal?

We do not have to justify our war to any nation however. Our hope is that nationsw ill justify our war to themselves.

It is up to you, war with us or make peace we have no problem doing both.

My apologies for making you feel as if you were begging for the land we fought side by side for against the Aztecs years ago.

As I explained before, I must be very careful in how my dealings with Korea are interpreted by the Mayan people.

Bojong is a shrewd diplomat. He has succeeded in negotiating Korea a prime city location, as well as bringing Korea into international alignment with the Maya.

The Maya agree to the terms of the new boarder agreement.

                  I am another you.

                  • Khmer Official Communique to Portugal and Maya

Firstly, Henry of Portugal, I just want to set the record straight about the conception of the Trilateral New World Management Committee. I have checked the transcript of our discussions and it was a suggestion of Khmer to set up this commitee. Not that I wish to take credit but I'm just very aware of how you don't like statements to be twisted, particularly in the world arena.

Subsequently Khmer suggested the idea to Maya who seem to like it.

Now, the substance of what we are dealing with:

                    * Portugal wants 6 cities in New Portugal
                    * Maya want to restrict Portugal to 2 cities
                    * Maya wants 2 cities in New Portugal
                    * Khmer wants ONE only
                    * All want other land-challenged nations to settle in New Portugal

                    * Portugal is effectively allied with Rome
                    * Rome is an aggressive nation looking for war at any opportunity
                    * Rome attacked Russia purportedly on Portugals behalf
                    * Portugal depends on trade routes through Rome for quick access to New Portugal
                    * Portugal has not stood up to Rome because of this; plus is fearful of loss of further resource trades
                    * Rumour that Portugal has gifted Carracks to Rome

                    * Maya, Percia and Sparta and others stood up to Rome

                    * Maya stands up against Portugal for not bringing Rome into line
                    * Maya destroyed a Portuguese Carrack and declared war on Portugal
                    * It is most likely that settlers were on board - if the Carrack was heading South it would have had 2 settlers on board as the Khmer scout saw them in Ravenna only a few periods before

Now, a starting point for discussion and agreement:

                    * Khmer/Portugal/Maya set up the Trilateral New World Management Committee
                    * Maya/Khmer gift 3 settlers to Portugal for Portugal to establish three cities and gift one city to Maya based on map agreement (mechanics of Carrack movements need to be worked out to get settlers gifted and transported)
                    * Portugal not gift Carracks to Rome
                    * Russia provides an alternate route for Portuguese settlers to the new world
                    * Portugal cancel all deals with Rome subject to Percian peace proposals and agreements
                    * Portugal is fully protected in New Portugal by Maya/Khmer
                    * No Roman city will ever set foot in New Portugal
                    * Portugal builds 6 cities in New Portugal SUBJECT to Maya mapping and agreement on city sites by the Trilateral New World Management Committee
                    * Portugals trades with Maya be restored
                    * Portugals loss of resources with Rome to be made up by Khmer

                    * This commitee to start assessing requests for settlement in New Portugal by land-challenged nations once maps are published.

Some aspects may have been overlooked but Khmer request preliminary thoughts on this dissertation.

From: King Pacal Voltan of Maya
                      CC: King Henry of Portugal

Suryavarman, your proposal is wise. It would end the Mayan/Portaguese war, as well as ensure the New World does not breed future war.

The only part I disagree with would be the number of cities Portugal is allowed. Without knowing the size of the landmass, we have no idea what percentage of available land 6 cities would encompass.

I would agree to this proposal and offer peace to Portugal with the following amendment.

Portugal is limited to 5 cities. Maya will gift two settlers, Khmer gifts one. Maya is then gifted one city of its choosing out of Portugal's 5, leaving them 4 cities. Khmer settles one city. The remaining land to be distributed to weaker nations who show interest, at the Trilateral New World Management Committee's discretion.

King Henry, I hope you see the wisdom of Khmer's proposal and our small condition for peace.

                      • TO: King Pacal Voltan of Maya, King Henry of Portugal, and King Suryavarman of Khmer
FROM: Bojong of Wonsan, Imperial Minister of Domestic Affairs

                        Honorable Kings,

On behalf of the Emperor of Korea, and speaking on behalf of our Imperial Foreign Minister Hae Mosu who is currently on assignment in Piercia we applaud the efforts being made to peacefully settle disputes arising due to New World settlements. As a nation that is not only close, but I believe fits the requirements of a nation in need of territory for expansion (Korea is the smallest nation the planet, and its capital suffers from overpopulation) our Emperor believes we would be remiss if we were to remain silent on the matter.

                        While it is not secret that Korea is not exactly an unbiased member of the international community, we believe our record of independence speaks for itself and I confidently assert our positions on the matter;

                        1) Maya is correct; as the full territory of the continent is unknown at this juncture, and considering the duplicitous manner of Portugese foreign policy, we suggest that there be a moratorium on all new settlement of the continent. We do not ask that Portugal cease sending supplies and persons to the new continent, but we ask that no new settlements be made upon the new continent until the full territorial scope of the continent and any peripheral islands be disclosed internationally.

                        2) We believe that a fourth party be added to the commission. As Korea's words are certainly considered to be biased, although we assure you that if you check our record diplomatically you will note we are quite independent minded and fair, we will not offer our own name in case it sullies the commission. However we suggest that a nation such as Wyandots, or a second party from Khmer's continent be added to serve as a neutral party in the decision making process.

                        3) We believe that, when considering nations that should have land alotments the following should be considered: capability to settle the land, location of the country in regards to the location of the continent, and other potential land that the considered country could settle otherwise. For example; Japan is quite far from the continent, and would be at the mercy of other states to travel through their waters, further they have land near them that they can readily settle. Whereas a country like Russia is not terribly far from the continent and their attempted expansion in their own region has been met with resistance.

                        4) Further, when considering land alotments we think the following should be considered for a decline; any status of vassalage which realistically makes the nation a tool of their masters, diplomatic relations with surrounding nations and nations who are already granted alotments upon the continent (so as to prevent war upon it), the past history of deals made on the part of this nation in regards to the international community.

While this has nothing to do with Korea, we feel that no settlers should be provided to Portugal considering our proposal that a moratorium on further settlements be considered. If this moratorium is declined then perhaps payment is in order, but we advise the nations involved to consider the source of the claim that they lost settlers. Simply assuming that a nation who allowed another to attack a weaker one in their own name, whether justified or not, and claims to be neutral in the conflict yet visibly supplies a party to said conflict with naval ships, is being completely honest is diplomatic folly.

Thankyou King Pacal Voltan of Maya .

It is pleasing of you to note that Suryavarman 1 of Khmer is NOT a King.

Khmer is not a kingdom but a despotic nation Korea

Voltan, your response is most pleasing but I'm sure Portugal will not agree to all points. However I'm sure Henry will agree to the fundamentals of the proposal as you have; but the sticking pont is most certainly going to be the city limit and possibly placements. Consider that the discoverer of New Portugal may deserve a little better reward - particularly if they sever ties with Rome.

Let's await their response, see where the differences are and work from there.

Khmer has a settler under construction as we speak.

Your friend Bojong of Korea has presented us with excellent criteria to consider but I suggest we three nations reserve judgement until the Trilateral New World Management Committee is formed and peace is assured.

                          Until our first meeting.

                          Suryavarman 1

Thanks for informing us about the lands west of Sparta.
One of our caravels is already heading into that direction and will soon arrive there. Maybe you are willing to exchange maps so that we can learn from each others explorations.

We are not sure yet if we are willing to settle new lands.
We leave that decision to our future king. Our current King, Perdiccas is dying and unable to lead our nation as we speak.

I trust that the map exchange may clarify thngs for the probable existence of the continent of New Sparta.

Do you believe it to be a continent. It certainly looks to be.

Khmer would like some involvement in the development of this land - not necessarily any rights but some influence.

                            thankyou

                            • Emperor Aun'O Asiz Asizia of the Piercian Empire

The Senate of Rome thanks you for your peace proposals.

We note that in a number of cases you have moved the proposal in your favour compared to what we discussed.

We will have to consider these proposed changes carefully. Unfortunately because of a Roman Festival called realus lifes we cannot do this properly today. But we will soon.

We anticipate that there will need to be some further negotiation of the details, but that we clearly are now in the final stages of agreeing a good peace.

                              • Suryavarman 1 was considering the Khmer spheres of influence and has been bolstered by his tentative efforts on the world stage of diplomacy.

This is something that the ancient Ganesh with his ancient tongue failed to achieve.

But one generation builds on another and as Suryavarman 1 ages his son is learning much from his father; but he is more military and leads Khmer's army. He sees things differently to his father but he can not change Khmer policy at the moment. He may gain wisdom one day.

Suryavarman 1 was thinking about his soon and how the future might unfold and then serenity jumped into his mind.

Serenity Island loomed large in his mind as the third sphere of influence of the Khmer.

Firstly he considered the Japanese and Barbarian 'problem' and their wild claims. He had received a dipomatic message from Ieyasu blaming Khmer for interferring and Suryavarman 1 wanted to put things right. He would request that the Scribes of Sparta consider Japanese expansion into the North of New Sparta. Japan is not far from here. And Khmer could help.

However, Otto of the HRE has Suryavarman's full support in developing Serenity Island. This island is right next to HRE and much further from Japan.

Khmer are clear on this policy and is pleased to see full support by the Metal Heads.

The Funglish must state an nterest here very soon for they are nearby.

Suryavarman 1 strokes his beard, now a very white beard - a wise old beard as his thoughts turned back towards Voltan. Wisdom. He liked being wise.
