  • Sparta reveals a letter it received from Korea:

we have good word that Russia is now going to become Vassal to Piercia. And in this case the war between Russia and Rome is over. Russia's case is over. There is no more protection of Russia for Rome, only an invasion of Rome by Greece and her allies.
It is clear that the entire Rome/Russia/Piercia peace deal has been pre-fabricated.
(this Korean message was sent before the Russia/Piercian vassalage deal had been made)

The way Korea talks about "Sparta invading Rome with it's allies" shows that Korea is clearly on Rome's side.
It knows about the Piercian/Roman deal in advance. It is clear that Rome, Korea and Piercia (and maybe others) have pre-created this deal.

This is what they wanted: Rome invades Russia, takes a city, and forges peace through Piercia.
Then Korea tries to stop Sparta from invading Rome through negotiations.

I don't know what Rome will give Korea for this deal.
I don't know what Piercia will gain. (not that long ago Piercia was scared by Rome and asked Sparta to send troops to defend it's borders!!)

But for Sparta this was enough to end all relations with Korea, and Korea get's one last change to explain itself, if it can't explain itself or refuses to do so, then Sparta will immediately declare war upon Korea, because Korea has made deals with Sparta's arch-enemy: Rome, behind Sparta's back.

That would include the end of the iron-deal, since Sparta has it's honour, but if Sparta is being back stabbed like that it doesn't feel like it should continue to be honourable to those who have no honour themselves.

Piercia gets also one chance to explain itself.
Otherwise Sparta will jump to full war production and fight a war on 3 fronts.

You truly are a fool. Gaining the help of the Piercians was the best thing you could have done. From what we could tell the Piercians are a wise and respectable nation who are trying to save you from fighting someone you have no chance of beating yet. But if you can get another foolish nation to take your offer, which I suspect you cannot pay at current time, then I wish you the best of luck. I could care less about your problems we have our own to deal with and need not bother help a nation bent on committing suicide instead of learning from a great country.

        • Dear dear, Perdiccas, your paranoia is getting to you. Maybe that brother of yours is going to murder you. I'd check your throne room for assassins if I were you.

Korea and the Piercians are free nations. That means they can do as they want. You treat them like dogs , demanding they come and obey you when you call.

The pressure on the tiny nation of Korea must be immense. If Perdiccas' paranoia causes it to launch war against Korea, Piercia and Rome, then this world will descend into world war the likes of which have never been seen before. But what choice do free nations have - become Sparta dogs, or fight.

We are praying to the one god for the people of Korea.

              • To the Greeks:
                CC: All nations.

Greece would do wisely in retracting its statement that the suffering of Russia is in any way part of anything preplanned from our side. Perhaps it was the intention of Rome and Piercia all along, but we are nothing but victims in this. Rome has taken our second richest city, and instead of the aid we were promised we have now lost our freedom through treachery. We have whipped our population to a fraction of its former size to raise soldiers to repel the invasion, in which we would have succeeded had we not been betrayed. Such is the punishment for those who would think honorably of others. And I assure you, Russia has nothing left now but vengeance. We had no chance against Rome. Yet we fought valiantly regardless and would have repelled the first wave, but were betrayed politically.

We have suffered greatly! And we have lost so much! Nothing in this treachery has given anything good to Russia.

Our foolish leaders believed themselves wise to open a second front on Rome, and bringing a local power that would have interest in gains from warring against a regional competitor, into the fray. Especially since Sparta, Oldonia and Japan's promises were noble, but hollow, since neither had any way to bring soldiers to our aid since the Wyandot's refused them access and Korea sought to distract them from honorable actions. Russia realized, that we were despite all honorable nations' pledges, isolated and alone.
We knew Rome and Piercia had a non-aggression treaty, and our belief was that this was a treaty signed to ease tensions, meaning there existed tensions. Our merchant class sought to make use of this tension and offer the prize of service, for the reward of an alliance. We were given this, then betrayed and had it stolen from us. We foolishly gave the prize before receiving the reward, for we did not know that the word of a Piercian is nothing worth.

As we have stated, we will offer GreatPeople and Vouchers to any nation who makes war upon Piercia and Rome. We will offer Gold and Resources to any nation that will support our struggle for freedom. And when that day comes, that we are free to make our own declarations, we will make war upon our transgressors in such ways that will make the whole world recoil from the monster that has been created by the aggression and treachery committed against us. This I swear to you, for though we do not believe in honor anymore, we believe in vengeance, and that gives us a common cause.

I hail you, new leader of the russian people,

Your words have been rude, but they have made clear that there has been a greater missunderstanding.

I have accepted to become your master in order to let justice happen to you. You asked me for having Rome regret their actions against your people and this is what I am aiming at. The damage done shall be repaired, and the ancient grudges shall be burried. Russia shall be allowed to flourish just as any other civilization.

What I am not offering is free violence, bloodshed for the sake of it. If Rome should refuse to cooperate, I will be obligated to defend you as my vassal and I will do it because I am able to do so where you are not. A little bit of patience in order to see if issues can be solved peacefully is not too much asked. The negociations of your predecessors with Rome have failed, which lead to this war. Since Rome has once been the greatest ally of the Piercian Empire, I feel that I have to allow them to talk before leading my armies in their lands. As my vassal, you can express your disaproval, but you are in no position to forbid it.

Watch your words when you accuse me of trying to abuse you. The risks I already have taken for you are tremendous and you shall not be ungrateful, because you would have no means even close to allow you to hide from my fury should you "spit" on our engagement towards your people.

Your "political elite" have shown themselves to be humble enough to accept their inability to face the current situation alone and accepted to ask for my help. In haste, they may have chosen words that I might have missunderstood, but I implore you : for the sake of your people, think about the opportunities given by the current situation and the consequences of further thirst for revenge. I believe that reparation can bring you much more as vengeance can.

Suryavarman 1 of Khmer fears you have been used in this land dispute.
Thank you for the concern. Portugal has already discussed this with the Romans, they have apologized for using my hunting grounds as one of the many reasons for their war.

Why not graciously allow Russia to keep the city on your side of the Great Bay and further discuss the complexity of Portugal, Rome/russia relations.
The Russ merchants can keep that eastern tip of my kingdom; we pardon their actions and breaking of our border agreement, Portugal is noble and care about smaller neighbors. Russ in the future please consul with us if you need or want something from my kingdom.

And let's get back to the negotiating table on the management of New Portugal.
Negotiations are welcomed, we await foreign proposals.

Together we can do much good to help nations like Russia yet for ourselves only earn nothing more than diplomatic respect.
Portugal has already seeded its claims to the eastern tip to the Russ Merchants. Our offer of aid concerning over sea expansion to the Russ is open and we await their reply.

I hail you, King of Sparta,

Your accusations are reaching very far, but I have always been in good terms with your regretted brother, so I can forgive your hasty conclusions and give you an explanation. Your brother was a man who I respected deeply, and the news of his death truely made my soul suffer.

The russian message has reached us some time before I officially announced my decision, but this has only been enough time for me to inform the Korean court about it, seeking advice of Aun'El Sa'Ly Lon'Don, the Oratress of Storms, currently on a diplomatic mission in Seoul. As a high-ranked member of the Aun, she is allowed to seek advice of a foreign ruler, which may be the reason for the Emperor Seijong having been aware of my intentions before I made them public.

You can ask the Russians about when their message arrived at my palace, and you will see that this could not be part of a plan. In fact, I was planning on evading deeper involvement in the Romano-Russian war, which the Senate of Rome can confirm.

As you said, I accepted your brother's offer to send defensive units to the eastern border of the Piercian Empire. This preventive mesure was because of the relations with Tribune Hieronymus always having been and (obviously) still being difficult. This the Tribune can confirm as well as your scribes can.

Your latest decisions regarding your Korean friends, and I insist since this is still what they call you, make me wonder about how you can be of the same blood as your brother. Contact hasn't been made a long time ago with Korea, but I already have a good opinion about them. I will now reapeat in public the favor I have been asking you for in a private letter : please don't you reject all ties you have with your oldest friends, and most of all, please don't you bring even more war upon this continent.

Have you all seen my plee on behalf of smaller nations who have requested that the University of Sankore NOT be built by a top nation.

Khmer can build it very quick and are half way through but have switched production in the hope that the top nations will also NOT produce Sankore.

If we get no commitments soon posted here, we will build it.

                          thankyou and tidings,

                          Dear Suryavarman 1

I am not attacking your politically, but excuse the curiousity which has taken over an old's man mind, thus I ask:

Yes Old Marco has read your request, but I am a bit worried:

*You say you take care of smaller nations, but yet you are still going to build this unknown to us wonder if someone doesn't answer you? What happend to the original request of that small nation that asked a top nation not to build it?

*You ask top nations to not build, OK that is a valid point, but Suryavarman 1 did you know that neither Portugal, Rome or Sparta have ever build any wonders EVER!

Khmer the richest, production power house and most powerful kingdom on earth

I ask you how many wonders have you build so far?

                          • Great Emperor Asiz of the Piercians, friend.

It saddens me to hear the words of hate that the Russians pour out on you, their saviour.

When we described the Russians as barbarians and gave a list of their aggresssive actions towards us in the past, including the burning to the ground and seizing the land of Mediolaneum, and the rape and pillege of our lands, and the breaking of treaties, we know that many nations saw these as mere excuses.

We do not expect nations to suddenly agree with Rome, but perhaps now people will understand what sort of neighbours we have had to try to deal with, unsuccessfully.

We hope that you can bring your vassal into line, but we see little evidence of it. All we hear is the proclamation of an endless venetta against both Piercia and Rome. As we speak they are burning and pillaging Russian speaking towns and villeges in the vicinity of New Mediolaneum. We have never detroyed a single farm, pasture or mine. Peasants of whatever nation should not pay for their lords wars. But the madness of barbarian Russia is that they prefer to destroy their own people rather than talk.

Regarding your recent correspondance from our friends the Piercians.

We are happy to confirm our friendship and long-standing non-aggression and mutual defence pact with the Piercians. Around the time of the cleansing of the Senate, it took some time for our nations to find the correct ways to relate to each other, but that was done. People may remember our clearing out of barbarians at Tartar near meeting, but not keeping the city since we had agreed the land was to be Piercan and, on their request, destroying the city, leaving it for them.

Currently, their noble intervention in the second Russian-Roman war, has of course brought tensions - indeed for a short while a state of war existed between us. But we are confident that this has not harmed our friendship - indeed we are only saddened that the Rus are proclaiming endless war against those who saved them.

FROM: Sejong of Goguryeo, Emperor of Korea

                                Honorable Perdiccas,

There has never been a better friend to Korea than Sparta.

Despite this we are wholly dismayed by your recent accusations, and the quick escalation of your treatment of my people and court. You asked us to close borders with Rome, and you threatened that if we did not you would close your borders with us. You never said anything about war. Now you talk of war.

You cite the release of our documents, documents in which I ask, nay DEMAND, that you show a single statement where we ever called Greece a warmonger! For there is not a single word of that in any of our proposals or our missives. In fact I have always spoken highly of you, all I am guilty of ever saying about Greece is that you are powerful and mighty. And these statements are true.

Oh how you have fallen, and how quickly. If the defense of small nations, if the independence of small nations to bigger ones is your true goal in this world I pray that you look in the mirror; for now Greece herself bullies a friend of hers, a great ally. I will be friends with Greece, but we shall never be her dog. Just as we shall never be a dog of Rome, or of any other hegemon on this planet. Without our independence, and freedom of thought we are nothing. So your threats of war, while I know you can make good on them and rend us asunder, are no threat compared to that of servitude.

You have let this dust-up in the north, far from our peaceful shores effect our southern nations. This is foolishness Spartan! Utter foolishness! Where is your famous Greek logic? Korea is no ally to Rome, Korea has never openly supported Rome in any case what-so-ever. In fact it was Korea, that at the outset of this war called upon peace talks. It was Korea that asked the small independent states to unite so we do not suffer what Russia has suffered, it was Korea who lobbied the Wyandots to close their borders and stop this war.

And the Piercians are correct, they told Korea that Russia asked them for vassalage. And Korea felt that, in an effort to gain back their greatest friends the Spartans, if they told Perdiccas about the vassalage thath the war would be over and peace would again come to Sparta. That was our only hope, and blinded by rage, without reason, Sparta trodded along the path to war; not caring who they hurt in the process.

Tell me Perdiccas; is it really Korea that has failed Sparta, or is it the other way around?

And you invoke the name of the Great General Bae Hyeongyeong. The man who approached an entire Spartan army, naked and unarmed. Yet again, Korea stands practically naked and unarmed as a large Spartan army looms over them. Just as Bae Hyeonyeong bravely approached this army, with nothing but peaceful intentions, Korea shall bravely confront Sparta today, with nothing but peaceful intentions. Tell me Perdiccas, will you be like Lacadeamon and become friends with Bae (Korea), or will you kill him?

I would rather be a free man in my grave, than live on as a puppet, or a slave...

Thank you for your time, friend.
