In the various diplogames we've played in Civ4 so far Fin was chosen 29 times and Org was chosen 7 times. Quite clearly the players seem to be unanimous which trait is more powerful. The only trait picked less is protective, which is generally understood to be a lame trait and one that wasn't even around since the beginning like Org was.

I've never used Org much at all and wanted to give it a spin. I think it is ridiculous to call it over powered when clearly no one wants to use it.

You are missing my point. Sure you encouraged all of us to pick different traits. Good work. And very few Fin civs are in the top group of this game. Cool.

But you specifically asked me and Toni as a separate exercise to not pick Fin or Ind and constantly posted about vets winning the game. We obliged, perhaps, but I was trying to move the discussion on for future games.

My thinking in retrospect was that it's a bit rich to pressurise me and Toni over Fin/Ind and then you yourself pick a religion precursor etc. Then I got to thinking about what would be best to handicap vets in future games.

This concept has nothing to do with a survey about what people have historically picked.

Thee is no logical linkage between what people pick and what is a lame trait. Organised is a very strong financial trait equivalent. You need to look at the math advantage in the game play not the popular picks.

Move your thinking on and tell me what you think about my suggestions.

      • Organised is very powerfull, but very underused.

But Ozzy has so far failed to gain the large empire that is necessary to reap the traits full benefits. I think this game will be rather balanced, because of his poor start. If he manages to overcome it, it is hard to imagine he could dominate the game.

I will comment that you are mistaken about fin not being used, Portugal is the top civ and it is financial.

My bad. I mixed up their UB with their trait. I'm still learning, so expect a n00bish mixup like that now and then.

            • perhaps fin isnt as powerful s people think seeing none are in the top civs, perhasp a good palyer can win with any traits and any start.

Well, maybe you are right and it's all a storm in a teacup but the idea of playing with a handicap structure is appealing and worth systemetising I think.

Personally I'm happy to play any trait but I have a few favourites.

                • The FIN trait gives an advantage on the long term. In the early stages, i'd guess the best trait is EXP (fast growing and more workers), followed by CHA (higher happy-cap) and IMP (get settlers out easier).

BTW, anyone ever had a problem with the great wall simply not displaying ? I have it in my city-screen, and i have cultural borders on land-tiles, but it simply doesn't display the great wall .

                      • Persia is right, Financial usually doesn't pan out until a little later on in the game.

                          • I admit I have done a poor job of reading everyone's posts since I have been so busy lately. But I finally read through a few of the recent Korean & Greek posts and I am damn impressed. The back & forth between the two regarding the negotiations with the Spartans was incredible. One of the finest interchanges I've read.

Very good stuff, keep it up.
