  • You see, on some levels I agree with you Toni, but good story-telling will out-as they say . Personally, I think this will be largely self-regulating as, just in the real world, the 2 most powerful civs are highly unlikely to ally.

At days end, though, I want to see things like Religion, Proximity, Culture & Values (Civics) play a more important role in alliances than scores on a leader-board.

    • As for Barbs, Toni, anything but Raging-we lost Ramesses II around 3500BC in that test game we ran !!!

      • Well i want tough barbs to spice up the early stories - if not raging then the next possible lvl. Also do you guys want to increase the game difficulty as well?

        • Which game difficulty leve did you use in the test game?

          • Well making the game more difficult via game lvl and barbs would increase the risk for ppl who decide instead of researching archery to protect their civilians go for religion for example.

Of course i strongly believe that we should not vote for such minor things - have one person decide for us like Lz.

              • suggestion that we limit the number of tech trades to a certain total
I like the 10 techs trade rule - makes for better diplomacy and not the welfare system we had up till now.

PPl will be much more careful what they want to trade - with who and what.

and there will be a trade off should somone trade in the early game or hold back for the mid and late part of it.

                • As I said above, I'm not a fan of the "hard cap" system because I think it hampers flexibility. That said, there are certain advantages to the system which cannot be denied-as LzPrt has pointed out. I vote (b) no cap, but will happily go with the majority .

                    • I say we go with Noble as far as the difficulty goes, but I don't mind whatever level everyone decides on.

Lz; I am not trying to make this complicated, but I will admit I am trying to get my preferences used for the game. But the same probably applies to everyone, as it should. There's no reason I shouldn't be able to voice my opinion. As far as your contention goes that I am somehow ruining the voting I will have you know, and you can check this, that I have always voiced my opinion and told you what my vote would be over and over again, so its not like I'm just complaining to ruin the game at all. I am just trying to voice my opnion because I feel that there is a solid group of at least four people that are, in my estimation, trying to railroad certain settings in without proper consensus.

Now, I mean none of this in a direct and personal manner (although I did blow up on deity one time), I am only trying to make the game better in my opinion. Of course people will disagree, and that is to be expected. But I am not trying to control this game at all, if I were doing that I would have tried to be the "chairman," and so far I haven't.

So please, if you guys can relax and not take this so seriously this will go much better with no personal issues. That's all I am asking.

I don't think I've done anything wrong. I just think things have gone so quickly that we've lost sight of the fact that this is supposed to be fun, and if it takes a while to sort out the game settings then so be it. Its better to take more time setting it up so its right, than to try to get everything settled quickly just to start a game that may end in arguments. That's what I'm saying.

The arguments are better to occur now than to occur during the game.

Now, I know at times I may seem to be screwing with people, or as Lz put it, and as deity suggested, attempting to "sabatoge" the game. Which I personally think makes absolutely no sense, just look who started this thread. Why would I intentionally ruin a game that I called for?

Besides that its also offensive to me to suggest that I would do something like that.

Now, I know that a lot of games have occured in my absense, and I also know that things have changed philosophically in Diplogaming since I last played. But that isn't going to change me, I played with a lot of guys who aren't around anymore, and a lot of these guys would agree with a lot of what I have been saying. The fact that I am not necessarily part of the established or common majority does not mean I am wrong, and does not mean that I should shut up either. In fact, I think its better for the Diplogaming community that there is disagreement over the best way to play these games, because this will lead to different games and will test our ideas and we may wind up with a more dynamic group and game than before.

So I don't know, its not fair though to try and demonize me for trying to get what I think are the best rules and settings in the game. I could easily accuse you guys of the same thing, and you should keep that in mind when you respond to things I say.

                      Peace

I can't wait for the 26th to come!

And what about BARBS??? How tough do we want them?

                        • This thread makes me laugh.

Anyway, what REALLY needs done is a new thread created that is dedicated to voting. Disallow any posts that do not simply give votes.

Keep things simple, try to limit the issues, but include everything.

I imagine Ozzy needs some time to actually make the map. So we should move on this now, so the vote can be locked. Say 3 days?

I would post the new thread, but it already looks like we have enough chiefs.

Normal barbs, not raging... too risky in a big group with wide experiences. Plus it disadvantages the players who picked expansive or imperialistic traits.

Noble which is standard for diplo games.

I'd prefer Monarch which stops techs from huts but Noble is probably better for the group.

I play immortal, and I still get techs from huts.
