Hey everyone, I noticed that nobody has begun preparations for HOTWXII, so I might as well begin.

I guess the first and most important order of business is getting a list of players with time zones etc.

So I obviously want to play, and I believe I am -6 GMT, so for now we should figure out who can play and what day would be best.

I think anywhere from 8 to 10 players may be best, but if you guys think we should have less that could be okayk too, I don't know where the pulse of DiploGaming is now because I've been out for over a year I think.

So with HOTW10 likely to be played USA VERY LATE FRIDAY/Europe Saturday morning/Australia Saturday evening I think HOTW12 should be played in the current diplo slot, ie:

USA Friday evening/Europe very late Friday/Australia Saturday morning

I was going to suggest Saturday Evening US, but whatever works out best we should go with. That way we get the best amount of players possible.

Although I personally would prefer Saturday Evening US.

Another thing I was thinking about doing was maybe an Earth map but of a specific continent. Like a European game or an Asian game, and we could maybe toy with the religions to match the continent we choose. But that was just a thought.

I'd probably rather play a normal game.

I started a new job that has me working 1PM - 9PM (EST) Friday nights.

So I could pledge +80% attendence for "late, late friday USA", and/or "saturday morning USA".

I'm not sure if I'll be in the next one. Maybe I'll skip one. Though if there'll be a game with a star-line up, it may be hard to resist.....

Well I don't think Ozzy has been listed yet because he hasn't said he wanted in yet. Although I hope he plays in this game.

I think as long as we have 8 to 10 that would be good, unless you guys think that may be too many countries.

US late friday/saturday? how late?
I'm gonna go jobhunting as of tomorrow and depending on what I end up with my schedule may be changed drastically. though most likely I'll have nights off (depends on how lucky/desperate I get). the thing is of course, as always, my friday (current slot) or saturday nights are my social nights. saturday/sunday morning-afternoon would be better for me, and since hotw10 won't last as long (epic) I'd rather have the long game in the good slot that won't conflict with other stuff, and put hotw10 in the traditional slot so that is only temporary. face it, our Marathon games last 6 months. and for me it is socially difficult to sign off every friday night for 6 months in a row.

Putting HOTW12 in the friday night/saturday morning/saturday evening might be a good bet for me. or sat.night/sund.morn/sun.evening. 11 PM EST is around 5 AM in Central Europe. bit harsh. an hour or 2 later maybe? were you thinking later? or earlier? later would obviously be better for us Euro's, but I assume harder for the yanks. but it is the weekend, and me and cyber have played from midnight - 3 AM for... years.

Keep in mind. HOTW10, will be an Epic speed game, partly used as a sandbox for experimenting with new rules and a victory points system. It will likely be over relatively fast. In fact I am counting on it. By starting HOTW10 ASAP, we might even be able to end it around the same time as HOTW11. We do NOT want 3 games running at the same time, I don't think we have enough players, and putting players into too many games for too long diminishes the individual games.

So my thought is that we start HOTW10 right away, and when either HOTW10 or HOTW11 ends, we start HOTW12. That way we'll have 2 games running simultaneously, but will be able to squeaze in one more, while we wait for the HOTW11 players to finish off. (I assume you have some sessions left). The HOTW10 players can always play 2 games because likely it will end sooner, and so the overlap of playing 2 games won't last too long for it to become a problem.

We could just kick off 12 now and those who want from 11 can join in there and play 2 games until 11 ends, but then we can't use the traditional timeslot for 12 (might be good for me)

and HOTW10 should be played... I would really like to try out some form of rules+victory points system in a game that doesn't have the same massiveness of commitment to it.

gods... is that even remotely understandable?


Summary of my rambling suggestion:
1. We start HOTW10 on the traditional timeslot as an epic game with the rules I've outlined in the Rules thread (modified by consensus). It will overlap the time slot of HOTW11.
2. We start HOTW12 in a new timeslot when HOTW11 ends.

Is there even an HOTW XI? Is this actually HOTW XII?
