  • Hmmm.....

I uninstalled Civ4. Then I played around with the registry and deleted a bunch of things that looked related to BTS (but not all things that said Civ since there was civ3, civ2, and other things that looked unrelated). BTS still shows up in add/remove, and I still can't remove it...

We're not skipping a session because 1 or 2 players are missing. I defenitely am opposed to that. Otherwise we may only be able to play 2 sessions per month. If we start to do that, there's no end.

one thing to check is the my games folderC:\Documents and Settings\My Documents\My Games and delete any civ stuff in there then delete the civ folder in C:\Program Files\Firaxis Games just delete the firaxis folder should do the trick then reinstall C4 Vanilla and BTS

sad but if all else fails maybe a clean windows Install is all that can now be done!

              • I believe I deleted all the reg entries. What are/where are the installshield folders? I deleted the main program folder (all of /Firaxis actually) and the My Games folder with the saves and such. Am I missing something?

I help Firaxis out with testing and such and now I'm f*cked over... *sigh*

                • My computer guy housemate is playing with it and is stumped.

The error message it gives is:

Installshield has its own folders which is what it uses to determine if something is installed. They're hard to find and harder to identify which is which ...

                    C:\Program Files\InstallShield Installation Information\
is the place to start (it's a hidden folder btw). The problem is they're not identified except by their id entries... usually the best way to find them is to first go into the registry and look under the uninstall code list there (I don't recall exactly where it is, but it will be a bunch of ids like these, long hex sequences). Usually you can identify it there by looking at what directory structure these point to. Then go to the folder I mention above and delete the corresponding folder. (You can also delete the registry entry, but I don't think you have to).

                    • This might be the id:
                      32E4F0D2-C135-475E-A841-1D59A0D22989
                      (from your error code)

Also, googling that error indicates it is a 'folder not found' or 'folder not accessible' error. Is that on uninstall or on install? If it's on the former then you need to go with my solution. If it's the latter (on install) then the program probably doesn't have permission to write somewhere it wants to (my documents possibly), or else you have a custom install location for civ4 and it's confused (try using the normal install path for both vanilla and bts).

                          • Thanks for the great advice! My Internet was down yesterday (i'm at the office now), but hopefully my housemate can figure it out (again).

It is the error I get on uninstall. When I try to install it just says that BTS 3.13 is already installed and I'm trying to install 3.0, and it doesn't give me any options to overwrite it, it just quits.

My computer guru housemate tried upgrading and updating installshield, that hasn't had any effect. I'll try your advice when I get home (assuming my Internet starts working again...).

                            • It worked!!!!!!

                              Thank you Snoopy!!!

My computer guy housemate came down to my room tonight and he said, "Ok, I've got another idea of what we can do."

I told him I already took care of it.

But then he fixed my Internet. So he still gets points, heh.

So, after all that, I think I can sub on Friday if needed.

                              • That's excellent!

I'm leaving home from Tel Aviv in a few hours.
If I won't show up my plane crashed or the security didn't let me pass for whatever reason

In that case I need a sub
                                See you guys tomorrow
