    Good stuff, people.

The struggle to get the game to launch was kinda a bummer, but when you've got 11 people running you expect that sort of thing. Once it launched it was a great time. I'm ready for the next session already. . .

It's always a struggle to get the game launched.
Therefor people must understand that we need some discipline.

After the first load failed (which is a known 303 bug! not a hosting error) there were THREE players who indepently started to host themselves, resulting in THREE HOTW XI games in the lobby.

      That leads us nowhere.

People really need to learn to get some patience.
Things may fail, and it leads us nowhere to always blame the host if things fail. We've had 15 different hosts in the past 5 diplogames, and there's no host where never problems occured.

The rules hould be pretty clear, if a load failed, always get back to the last setup. From that we can decide to do something different.

Another complication was that the save-file just stores the game-title. That's why it was impossible to name the game different, and were all games titled History of the World XI, despite attempts to name them slightly different to show the difference.

That increased the problems when multiple people joined.

Therefor I want to suggest some rules:
      1. be online in time, both on AIM/YIM and in the lobby
      2. add all players in the lobby to your buddy list
      3. join the game and click 'ready' immediately
      4. if there are problems, communicate to the leader (that's me)
      5. if something fails, get back to the last setup (if Toni hosted, then get back to Toni's game)
      6. be sure that your configuration is ok before gametime (firewalls off, pitboss off, AV off, router configured correctly, correct patch, etc.)
      7. Possible hosts: make sure you have downloaded the latest save before the game, and make sure that it works.

Bright side: if the first attempt wouldn't have failed we could've had started within 20 minutes!

Thanks all for your patience though! It's great to sea that people are eager to wait to get the game started.

The debate between the slow-players and the quick-players will never be won by either side. I don't think that it will improve our gameplaying to keep the debate going. Just 2 notes for both sides:

      - slow players: please try to keep things reasonable. If you need your time, take your time. If it's not really needed, don't take it
      - quick players: have some patience, grab a magazine, enjoy your chat, do some more diplotalking or write some story posts

I think that the casual 'turn' message is ok, surely since some players sometimes forget to hit enter (I know that I forget it sometimes)

Guys, I think this is becoming a great game!
Thanks all! I'm sorry for bossing around here and trying to get some things clear.

You can always vote me out as a leader :P

Having taken over an empire in the frozen wastes that had little going for it (turning it around though!) I must say that I didn't have a problem sitting around waiting. Even just reading the banter going on between other nations and the posturing and whatnot was good fun in my opinion (I could've done that all day), plus it gave me time to really plot out where I was going to try to plunk down cities to maximize the rather small amount of good land available to me.

And yeah, the launch issues are to be expected. I mean, 11 people on a Peer-to-Peer style setup? It's BOUND to have crazy things happen to it.

        Me.

I vote for Cyber to remain leader...

I'm not a 'slow player' though. I end my turns quick smart and always check that the enter took hold (sometimes it doesn't)

In this diplo game I border 4 civs, was first to Alphabet and my story thread will show just how busy I was and I would like to have enjoyed it more when I deliberately took a few really slow turns. I'm pretty patient with others slow turns and rarely say "TURN!"

Guys and gal - my humble apologies again for being late this week. It was a bit of a topsy turvy week for me and my mind was simply elsewhere.

I had eye surgery on Thursday to correct a rare form of early-developing cataract in my left eye. Right eye is in two weeks. And three different sets of eye drops that my wife has to put in on different hourly schedules. And my sister-in-law over for dinner.

So again - sorry about that. Will be ready this Friday.

And yes - still a good session.
Cry havoc and let slip the dogs of war .... aw, forget that nonsense. Beer, please.

we only had 64 turns. compared to the near 100 we had 1st and session. I'm sure we can break our record next session

also in the news. I have 3 more sessions left until I have to leave. so start asking around for a replacement...

Bah Civ is a turn based strategy game not a real time one! Real men play civ over years not months! Each change in city workers is an agonizing decision taking minutes! Each move takes the same amount of time to decide! And city placement takes hours as reams and reams of calculations are done by many hamsters!

also. more storyposting. the western nations, Germany, America, Portugal and Russia are prolific posters and there is a lot of diploing going on there, on the thread and perhaps... in the shadows...

we're halfways to next session. if you want responces on your posts hurry hurry!
