            Glad to have her back.
Maybe we should start working on a list of subs.

            This list should include:
            - (poly) name
            - AIM/YIM/ICQ/MSN contact info
            - e-mails

So that we can be more succesfull arranging subs on the last moment.
I also want to say again that if people are missing we should give ourselves more time to find subs.
Last couple of sessions always started in a hurry. I don't feel happy to get a hurry start without subs and people who have connection problems.

let's stay true to the diplo spirit, and try to get everybody onboard first before we start playing.
It's a good idea though to start the game asap, but then just wait in the game-window, not ending the turn.

Well I agree that we should try our best to find subs for missing ppl. But we should not delay the start of the game because of that. After all many of us sacrifice other things to make time for playing diplo, so it isn't fair to the ppl who are on time and here!!!. And we do not start the game in a hurry, last 3 sessions we were always late to start the game.

Oh and don't start me on the connections issues please This is the responsibility of each player. We organize diplo games 2-3 months before they start, so if someone has connections problems it’s solely their fault that he/she wasn’t serious enough to fix them.

Toni, that's a departure from diplogames.
It's always been that we wait for each other.
Connection problems sometimes can't be anticipated on. And not everybody has the same technical knowledge.

Yes, we had a late start last session, but part of the reason was the hurry some people had to setup a game for themselves. We had 3 games running at a certain point.

I think that if we play together, we can wait for each other as well.

Of course, if someone just fails to show up or didn't try to give a notice, that's a good reason to start just without him.

The sacrificing is a good argument indeed. Some players sacrifice a lot to play, it's a pitty if they then have to miss a session later on because of problems they face.

Regarding the current session's stories in the story thread I'm surprised that:

                        * America has not expressed an interest in trading with the Portuguese to get techs - I'm not sure if they can see this info yet but America has a tech that Portugal does not and would like...

                        * That Russia, although commenting on being annoyed at not yet being offerred alphabet they have not responded to Joao's request for emmissaries and dialog on the matter; particularly regarding the upcoming possible trades with the very far away Dutch.

Note that the Portuguese have only just gotten Alphabet and not had enough time to yet trade with all other civs.

                        * That there are not more stories and opinions from other civs...

the others... well there are reasons for them. and if you'd read my posts you're not the only one with alphabet. (i will have it after the first ended turn)

If the portugese want to trade knowledge, I suppose they have to come with a proposal.
We don't know what that 'alphabet' thing is you're talking about. Why would we need it? Why would we pay a 150% price for it? You are the salesman, make me believe in the alphabet, and I may pay a price for it.
