btw, since I'm interested in having a good competitive game I noticed a few things in people's cities that I found puzzling.
For example France is creative yet has obelisks in all his cities. Including his capitol. I know its tight down there, but.... that really seems like a waste. Though perhaps it was the AI's doing, in which case.... stupid AI. But otherwise, obelisks are really only necessariy for poping your borders. If you are cultural, or if you have a capitol that is growing culture on its own, then building an obelisk is really a waste of time and resources.
And Inca, you have 3 cities and built courthouses in them all including your capitol. I don't know what kind of maintence costs you have, but I have 5 cities and Delhi is bigger than Cuzco and I have a maintenence penalty of -1 in Delhi. So building a courthouse there does absolutely nothing for me. I would imagine your maintence costs would be less.
So why, as a non-organized civ, did you pay full price to build relatively expensive buildings that are so far returning very little?
Being small you can still be powerful, but you have to make smart choices. Get the best out of what you have. Play to your strengths, etc.
I just don't want people to fall behind and get frustrated. Better parity makes for a better game, but people have to make smart decisions in game. Maybe folks should check out some of the other forums for gameplay tips.
(btw, no i didn't cheat and peak at anyone's civs, all this information is available on the main map if you zoom in to cities and check what buildings appear on the map)Captain of Team Apolyton - ISDG 2012

That's kinda messed up Ozzy, I don't know why but I think you should reserve the criticism for after the game."Our cause is in the hands of fate. We can not guarantee success. But we can do something better; we can deserve it." -John Adams

I was having money problems, even with 3 cities (after I lost that one to barbs), I want to keep my research rate above 80%, and all I know is that courthouses reduce maintenance costs by 50%. After building them, no more money problems...what am I doing wrong? Maybe it wasn't necessary now, but in the long run, after two or three cities more, it will be imperative. I can't see into your cities to know what maintenance costs you have. But if its anything like mine they are -1 or -2 per city. Building a courthouse saves you either 1 gold or 0 gold per city. That is an incredibly small return on the hammer investment.
And yes, some day they will be needed. But you have to think strategically. Maybe build a library that will have a more immediate effect, or forges (so when the time comes to build those courthouses they'll go faster). I dunno, anything else.
Especially as a financial civ you should be building things to maximize the coin coming in, as it will have a bigger effect than minimizing the coin going out, especially at this stage in the game with the size you are.Captain of Team Apolyton - ISDG 2012

Well, you're right, not getting much return from the shield investment. And what's funny is that the city that would benefit the most from a courthouse, doesn't have one yet
Game mechanics is not my strongpoint, and i've always had a tendency to be mechanical myself and build all buildings in every city, which I know is often a waste of resources.
