I must say though that I'm glad that someone came in who thought civ4 was not much better then civ3.
Now Ming thinks better of us people who claim that civ3 is better then civ2

And I agree they should fix the colonies issue and the other minor issues, but I am just hard pressed to say the whole thing is broken because of that.
Mmm, so when you wipe out a civ, another one builds a colony and half your cities start riotting because of war weariness, there is no problem? The ai uses colonies...

And that is the crux of the situation LDiCesare...although Wiglaf is still having problems comprehending this...
(Most of my MP games are being played with AI civs as well)

And there are alot of people who don't hang out at forums like this who may not even realize that there is an unofficial patch.
Are they stupid?

None of Bruhic's fixes are game changing. None of the bugs just cry out for an immediate fix. There will always be minor bugs, it's just the way it is. The game's from 2005, it's now 2008, you can't honestly expect patches for years and years.
BtS was released in the summer of 2007, it's still a fairly recent product relatively speaking.
The MP community needs a standard and that has always been to only play MP games with "official" patch releases, which helps allieviate shady players hosting a modified game which allows them an unfair advantage.
Then before you play a MP game, you swap out the unofficial patch DLL and replace it with the official one. Problem solved.

Or an even easier way to handle it is to install the unofficial patch as a mod. That way you can play with the mod for your single player games, and play the "default" game for multiplayer games.

I do this for multiple mods and it's real easy, actually. Once you have a game in progress and have it saved, when you go back and want to play again all you have to do is double-click on the saved game icon and the game is smart enough to figure out exactly which mod to load, and automatically load it along with the game. So, you don't have to go into the Load Mod screen, even, or wait for the game to load twice.
I have an alias to my saved games folder on my desktop, and it's that simple.
