  • Mea culpa.

I was working through a save game to an appropriate point when I realized that it wasnt Monte who was attacking me after declaring peace it was his (previous) vassal Mehmed. Their units are a similar colour and I was so surprised by the continued attack that I didnt mouse over them.
We need seperate human-only games for MP/PBEM that dont include the over-simplifications required to have a good AI

    • I had an error last night. In attacking and just barely taking the Holy Roman City, Vienna, against heavy resistance, as soon as the city finally fell, the game immediately gave me Aachen (three squares down the road) along with two new workers (similar to how the game places two infantry types in a city culture transfer). I thanked and waved to the HRE troops in Aachen as I elegantly rode my last mobile elephant in an instant and triumphant victory parade past the rathaus and many dazed Aachen defenders. Sued for peace immediataly to keep the free capitol. Aachen had Colossus and thankfully I had no Astronomy yet. Thanks 3.13!

      • Saygame, you need to install Bhruic's unofficial patch to fix that particular nonsense. In fact, that is the answer for most problems in the game,

        • I still managed to crash the Civilopedia by accessing a unit (the Sumerian UU) accessing the Axeman entry and then clicking on 'Replaced by Vulture'. I'm guessing that this bug was not completely squashed.

          • Started a game as the Sumerians. Not sure if this is intended or not but Ziggurats (courthouse replacement) showed up as available to build with the Priesthood tech, not CoL.

If you don't need Confucianism this is quite an advantage for Gilgamesh so I assume it is a bug. Not sure if it was in the previous version as this is the first time I have played the Sumerians.

            • ^ Ziggurats (courthouses) with priesthood for Sumer are intentional.

              • Indeed, it's the major benefit of playing Sumeria

                • Apologies for being picky but if that's the case then why doesn't Monty get his religious building that replaces courthouses with Priesthood?

                  • I think for those who love to pop rush, the Sac Altar halving anger duration makes it powerful enough already without moving it up.

The Sumerian UB is moved up AS its primary special power, basically. IIRC it's essentially a normal courthourse (maybe a culture or something?) but just earlier. Other UBs have other powers ... it's just a different one, and an interesting one. (Zulus are comparable btw - reduction in maintenance for barracks gives them a similar early effect.)

                        • Got another one that I'm not sure if it's a bug or a feature?

Enemy privateers can hide, and heal, in your cities.

I have open borders with every other civ in the game (except Monty) and a privateer turned up off my coast line. I hit it with an airship and sent a couple of ships of the line into the area. The privateer retreated into my city!! and waited until it had healed. I had parked my 2 ships of the line on a fishing boat outside as I didn't want it to be plundered and the privateer came out, sank one of my ships of the line (we need an abbreviation for that - SotL) - bad luck but annoying - and then retreated back into my city again to heal!

I don't want to go round cancelling open borders agreements - I'm not even sure whose privateer it is. I can understand a privateer using port facilities in a "neutral civ" but when my city is being used as a refuge to stop me sinking the poxy little pirate it is very annoying.

                          • Were you unable to move your ships into the city? What would have happened if you had built a ship while it was there?

                            Comment

                            • I could move my ships in but nothing happened.

Eventually I cancelled open borders with the owning civ, the privateer got booted out beyond my borders and I sank it. The AI asked for open borders again a few turns later. So it's not such a big problem as long as you can find the right civ to cancel open borders with.

What is actually more of an issue is that SotL only get a bonus against frigates so whilst the frigate is stronger than the privateer (and the East Indiaman), they both get slightly better odds against the SotL than the frigate does.

                              • Not sure if this has been mentioned before, but here it goes:

When my units took the city in the bottom right corner all of the sudden I got control over the enemies workers: One worker who's just northwest of the city and one worker located inside the enemy city in the bottom left corner (thereby conquering their last city with a worker, even though they still had units inside the city)
As far as I can tell, they don't have any cities left, but they're still alive
This space is empty... or is it?
