  • i have been having a problem with my auto workers that are set to link up resources building forts on them instead of what is required to utilise the resource.
kinda screwed me up for awhile as i new i had the resources & that there was something on them(quick glance) but i wasnt getting benefits. lol.
anyway is this by new design or a 'bug'

    • It is by design, as far as I know (forts do link the resource to you, and are beneficial in being able to defend the territory easier). More than likely it is because the AI tends to use this a lot (defending its copper or whatnot with units, so better to have a fort to protect its defenders) when not in a city radius; remember automated workers follow the same rules exactly as AI workers.

Of course you'd probably rather mine the copper as you would plan on building a city there eventually; this is just one more reason why automating workers is bad, bad, bad. Don't do it unless you expect this sort of thing The fact that AI strategy is so dramatically different than player strategy means you will never have truly optimal automated workers unless you program an entirely new AI for automated units - which is probably not worth doing unless/until the regular AI is perfect.

      • i tend to use combined auto/micro manage(with remove forests & replace improvements turned off) workers. just never seen them do that before.
will definetly be managing those little bastards even more now

It is just a little annoying that they become "unselected" as a group after I select to grop them.

                Anyone else experience this?

(BTW, this has been my experience with the game through all the various patches, Vanilla, Warlords and BtS)
Anyone else have this happen to them?

                • In a game I was cruising to a space ship victory, I had one city building fighters, and another to build bombers just so I would have a few extra in case I needed them..

I then switched them both to build recycling plants when the tech became available.

As the two cities were building the plants, they continued to kick out airplanes at the same rate as if that is what they were working on, while still working on the recycling plants, which they did kick out when they were supposed to.

I then switched both cities back to research when the plants were done, and they continued to kick out airplanes, while still providing extra science...

It didn't stop until I closed down the game and restarted it. Really weird.

                    • Man, I wish I had a couple of those cities, set to Axemen or something from game start.

                      • If I had needed more aircraft, I might not have rebooted the game

But the reboot took care of the problem.

                        • I have a variant on the vassal-war thing.

I've been at war with Montezeuma for ages in the tri-match game. My buddist allies are kickin his butt (while I'm hanging on). Finally Monte sues for peace which reject by virtue of wanting more than 100 gold! As the AI turn continues, Monte gets peace with the rest of the buddists because he's now a vassal of Catherine (the holder of the apolstlyic palace). Despite that I rejected peace, the relations shows that I'm not at war. OK so I lost out on the 100 gold.

Next thing you know Monte's armies continue to attack despite that I'm not at war with him. Nor can I sue for peace (as if I would) since we're not at war!

I went back 2 turns and when Monte turned up I accepted peace and the 100 gold but the same thing happens.

Another factor may be the Ottomans who may have been vassal to Monte since I'm no longer at war with them despite never negotiating peace with them.

What I dont know is whether monte's armies continue to attack the AI nations he also became peaceful with in the same turn.

                          This is a game ender

We need seperate human-only games for MP/PBEM that dont include the over-simplifications required to have a good AI
