Morgan Freeman is a good default choice.

Although my joke choice would be Christopher Walken.

I would have to turn it off right away... or die laughing every time I heard his voice.

            How bout Stephen Hawking?

He is after all one of the smartest people on the earth.

If Morgan Freeman can make penguins fascinating then he can even make the technology quotes sound good. That was my banana vote.

If you went with an unknown but great voice-over person, I would suggest actually using 3 or 4 such people and randomizing which voice you heard as each tech was found. It means extra sound files, but it would help delay the "I am so bored with this." effect. I mean, I really love Leonard Nimoy and even I had to turn off the voice-over from him.

I do like the Stephen Hawking suggestion. It is such a great notion on many levels. I would even suggest that his robot voice be put on some future technology such as Advanced Astronomy, which helped speed up and guide your Spaceship or something.
              If you aren't confused,
              You don't understand.

Stephen Hawking as a voice was a joke... at first...

It would be cool to hear him do the voice for some sort of advanced tech.

Just imagine Christopher Walken doing the Sputnik quote.

"The subject of onanism is inexhaustable." --Sigmund Freud

My banana vote goes to Richard Ridings, who voiced Dungeon Keeper among others. Just imagine how 'Your citizens like your style' would sound
O'Neill: I'm telling you Teal'c, if we don't find a way out of this soon, I'm gonna lose it.

Lose it. It means, Go crazy. Nuts. Insane. Bonzo. No longer in possession of one's faculties. Three fries short of a Happy Meal. WACKO!

                          more cowbell. Walken

come to think of it, I think we need a female voice. I think older English women (not the low class ones) sound sophisticated.

Or we could alternate like SMAC. Who could forget Daedres quotes? I forgot Miriams, but that's because I don't like her.

and for the record I still listen to the quotes, or half listen would be more accurate to say. The game doesn't feel right if I skip them entirely.

OK - you win. Christopher Walken would be hilarious... in fact, he would be freeken jeen-yuss!

                                Sigourney Weaver.

Has anyone seen the Planet Earth series from the Discovery Channel? She is absolutely terrific and would be a nice change from the usual male voice.
