I know. The title didn't bear much power the last centuries. That was not a point anywhere in my post though. Nor did I say anything about the Habsburgs. They are in fact irrellevant to my argument. It's been a long day, haven't it Thedrin?

More HRE discussion, in response to several assertions:
I will probably call them the HRE/Teutons. It would be cool if their UU was the Teutonic Knight.
Pope Leo crowned Charlemagne the "Holy Roman Emperor," but that wasn't the offical name of his realm. Most of his contemporaries simply called it "the Empire." The Carolingians (his dynasty) lasted until Charles the Simple (d. 929), although Big Chuck's empire had long since fragmented into France, Germany, and Lotharingia, with the ruler of the latter styling himself as Emperor. After the Simple Charles' death, France and Germany gobbled up Lotharingia and went their separate ways.
The Empire wasn't resuscitated until 962, when German King Otto became the new Holy Roman Emperor. This time "the Empire" was a purely German affair (little to no Frenchies involved) and it had somehow become Holy and Roman along the way, just like it's Emperor. And the dynasty was Ottonian.
"Roman" was to tie it into the old, defunct western Roman Empire as a claim for authority, as well as a challenge to the Byzantines, also claiming the title.
"Holy" was to tie it in to the Catholic Church as its official protector-state, as well as to give the Pope an excuse to meddle in its affairs and decide who got crowned or not, which was something Charlemagne was trying to avoid.
That being said, this particular civ is probably most accurately described as Frankish, Carolingian, or Teutonic. Charlemagne's dynasty of the HRE (800-929) was only a small fragment; the incarnation started by the Ottonians lasted in some form or another from 962-1806. Thus, though Charlemagne is the leader, the civ itself had more longevity.
And I'm sure it will be a much more diverse version of the HRE after we mod in Barbarossa as a leaderhead.

Yep. That's why I edited out all the stuff that might lead to a debate I didn't want to take part in.

And it makes my job a whole lot easier!
Since it's been released now, I have one clarification I'd like to be addressed. Someone asked a question about whether there would be a southeastern Asian civ in BTS. The question did not state a "new" civ, just whether there would be one. So, is one of the new civs a southeastern Asian civ, or was the Firaxisian just playing with the wording of the question?
As far as I remember, none of us answered anything ambiguously. Questions that couldn't be answered were left answers saying that information will come later. And jokes were quite obvious, although I did enjoy your thread about TEH ALIENZ .
Part of China is in SE Asia, but it's hardly a SE-Asian country. The Association of Southeast Asian Nations consists of Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam. So you're reading too much into it, it certainly referred to a new civ.

Alexman just said at CFC that you can extend your canal by building forts next to eachother, but ships can only enter coastal forts limiting the canal's length to squares, except when lakes are helping you.
Does anyone know if forts have built-in harbors? e.g. if I build a fort on the deer on that 2-tile arctic island, will it be hooked up to my trade network?
