  • Here's an idea: an Atlantis scenario. It wouldn't be quite like the old Civ2 version that had you fighting Minotaurs and such. Rather, I think it would be cool to have the Minoans as a Mediterranean-based "Atlantis." I'm thinking of an archaic-world scenario.

They would have to interact with their neighbors - Mesopotamia, Egypt, Mycenae, and decide whether to trade or to fight, what direction to pursue in terms of culture...

and all before Thera explodes, virtually destroying their civ. And after the cataclysm, you must choose what path your civ will take - vengeful Sea Peoples, or benevolent refugees colonizing some distant shore.

    • Ummm - Alexander01, you seem to have missed my Super Praetorian idea of your improvements list

Do we really need more scenarios?

I think we need more depth, more micromanagement, much longer games, even bigger maps, more diplomacy, greater involvement in trade, more "worker" improvements, - oh yeah and I want the throne room back!

      Seriously!
I don't know why he saved my life. Maybe in those last moments he loved life more than he ever had before. Not just his life - anybody's life, my life. All he'd wanted were the same answers the rest of us want. Where did I come from? Where am I going? How long have I got? All I could do was sit there and watch him die.

throne room was always kind of bleh. Maybe it'd be better if you could put the heads of your defeated enemies on display.

          Yeah - they were cool!

Do I remember correctly that in one the earliest Civ's you got to add to a palace as you advanced?

          • I like the random traits idea, that seems pretty cool. Random units would be especially cool, particularly if you didn't know what it was till it came into time - it would make for a much more explorative game style.

Totally agree on the Colonisation demands by the way, and Privateers. Barbarian cities that survive should be able to churn those bad boys out too, for really cheap.

I've said it before, I'll say it again: The advisors should come back

              • Also, negotiatied borders and late game annexation or border in fill in so you can claim vast tracts of desert and tundra with small cities.

It's annoying to have to whack down a pointless town just to stop the AI whacking down a pointless town, and really, it's no good for either of you.

With Nationalism or Paper or something (Paper would be good as it's pre Astronomy when some of these problems arise) patches of unclaimed tile between two of your cities should just flip to your culture.

Either that or make a worker improvement (or settlement, like Civ III colonies) that functions as an outpost and projects a little box of culture round itself. It might even be a good use for a late game fort.

                • I'm with the gang who's rooting for advisors to make a return. I think they added some personality into the game, if that's the word for it. Also, it's nice to have faces rather then just blue text saying, "build this!"

                  • I just miss the military advisor so much. . I really should put civ2 back on my hard drive. I don't think I could play that game anymore. But I would just love to hear the advisors again.

                        • Attila the Hun: UU: Tarkan, replaces Horse Archer. Same as Horse Archer except the Tarkan can reduce city defenses.

I don't know what traits he should have.

A bit like SMAC. When you destroyed a civ the leader was shown in some kind painful prison

                                That's not a rumour.

The Civ3 manual actually states that one of the things you can do with the spy is poison water supply. But this feature is not present in Civ3 ....

In Civ4 this would mean, I suppose, an increase in a city's unhealthiness for a period of several turns. Loss of population, production, etc.

Of course poisoning of water supply goes on all the time in real life - but it's usually governments that do it to their own people.

By the way, I am absolutely amazed that Civ4 Warlords is not reintroducing tactical nukes, nuclear subs, cruise missiles, etc.
