Firaxis is not your average software developer. Anyone who knows the company will tell you they're a far, far cry from being say EA.

Then what use are we to Firaxis? Why does alexman and even Soren frequent these boards if we are such a miniscule sampling of the general audience?
One of a number of avenues to communicate with their customers -- and probably the most direct and practical one at that?

Not to mention they are also members of the community that enjoy coming here to play, read and talk about the games, just like the rest of us...

    OK, name them.
A few that aren't in Civ4 yet: Maya, Khmer, Sumer, Babylon, Assyria, Phoenicia, Ethiopia, Nubia, Dutch, PortugueseCouple of others you could argue about and depend a bit on personal preference: Olmec, Zimbabwe, Austria-Hungary, Poland, Hittites, Byzantines, Hebrew, Harrapans, Thai. Might be one or two more but that should be most of them. Combine that with the 24 already in Civ, subtract the Zulu and you have 33 definites plus 9 debatable ones = 42 total. I said 30-40, not 40+ -- but including the debatable ones that should make DrSpike happy

    • I think that's a valiant effort, but am sure that those that prefer arguing about civs to playing Civ might have some comments.

For sea resources maybe having a harbor would allow worked tiles to occasionally add fish and whale and a lighthouse would allow worked coast tiles to pop crab/clam.

Essentially just applying the way a mine works to other things.
You can do that now if you like. Just add a DiscoverRand number in the appropriate improvement in the ImprovementInfo file in Terrain. Mines by default have a number of 10000. I found that was a bit much for Farms since you end up with so many of them. I was popping Rice etc. all over the place.

        • Oh, forgot the Minoans. I knew I was forgetting one...

No one's suggesting having a civ only XP, of course there will have to be something else included as well. But if you're going to release an XP, why not include more civs? They definitely add variety to the game, especially if they have well-programmed personalities.

Absolutely. Though I doubt Firaxis will pull a Call to Power and add "the Native Americans." I wouldn't mind seeing most of the additional ones on Locutus's list in Civ.

And I think the Minoans is a fascinating idea. I added them to the list just the other day. The trouble would be a leaderhead. Minos? Legendary. I doubt there are any other feasible options.

              (Maybe the Minotaur )

              • Or they could add all of these civ's and call the next XP "Useless WindowDressing"

I'm sure lots of people would buy it anyway
I don't know why he saved my life. Maybe in those last moments he loved life more than he ever had before. Not just his life - anybody's life, my life. All he'd wanted were the same answers the rest of us want. Where did I come from? Where am I going? How long have I got? All I could do was sit there and watch him die.

                  • My opinion on Locutus' choices:

                    Maya - yes
                    Khmer - yes
                    Sumer - or Assyria
                    Babylon - definitely
                    Assyria - or Sumer
Phoenicia - no, Carthage is already in
                    Ethiopia - yes
Nubia - no, not if Ethiopia is in
Dutch - yes, just to satiate Netherlandish fans
Portuguese - maybe, I really don't care either way
Olmec - no, not well known enough
                    Zimbabwe - no, probably not
Austria-Hungary - no, they weren't even good enough to be playable in Civ3
Poland - maybe, if you want a pushover
Hittites - maybe, if you like Civ3
                    Byzantines - maybe
                    Hebrews - yes, sorely needed
Harrapans - no, we have India
                    Thai - maybe
                    Minoans - possibly

                    • And what of the 6 trait combinations from vanilla that were removed in Warlords? Do we think they should stay gone? Or are they good enough to make a comeback?

                      • Don't forget the Iroquois or Lakota which Locutus left out of his list. In general, I think there are enough quality civs out there for a third XP down the road.

                              • No way, we need a native North American civ. There are some art files in the Vanilla game that suggest that Firaxis at least seriously considered putting the Sioux in the game. I would rather have the Iroquois myself, but the Sioux have more famous leaders (Sitting Bull, Crazy Horse).
